Enchylaena tomentosa (Ruby Saltbush) is a hardy, low-growing perennial native to every mainland state of Australia - at home across coastal dunes, saline flats, inland plains and arid shrublands.

This species is a key member of our Nursery Grow List because of its ecological importance and subsequent ongoing demand from landscape architects, councils and environmental authorities.

It is highly drought and salt tolerant, stabilises exposed soils, and its long fruiting season provides an important food source for native birds and small mammals. The species is suited to terrestrial planting zones (>+0.2 m above NWL) on batters, upper banks and wetland surrounds.

2026 has been a particularly strong year for seed production. Our Seed Bank collected a high volume of seed, securing future supply of this in-demand species. Updated propagation methods in our Nursery have also delivered consistent germination within two days of sowing - a great result for a species we grow and supply at volume.

Identification: Ruby Saltbush forms a spreading, grey-green mound of slender, semi-woody branches, typically 0.3–0.6 m tall and up to a metre wide. Its semi-succulent, cylindrical leaves are softly tomentose and silvery, often blushing purple at the tips in exposed positions. Small greenish-yellow flowers appear from spring through autumn, followed by the showstopper - fleshy 4 to 6 mm berries that ripen from green through yellow and orange to a glossy bright red before drying nearly black on the plant.

Green Links restoration delivered in Brimbank 🌿

Our West Environment team has recently completed installation works on the Green Links Kororoit Creek Connections project for - a four-zone revegetation program restoring riparian and roadside corridors that connect into the Kororoit Creek waterway. The works covered three rounds of w**d control per zone ahead of planting, more than 27,000 native tubestock, a further 4,000 supplied by Council, and over 5,000 m² of jute matting through the planting areas.

It's the kind of council-led ecological restoration project where outcomes are driven as much by what happens before and after planting, as by the planting itself. Each zone now moves into a 12-month maintenance program through to handover.

Coridale Drainage Reserve nearing completion 🌱

A great example of our ability to scale up and deliver at speed without sacrificing quality. Working for landscape architect Plan E on behalf of developer Villawood, our West Landscaping team has brought softscape works at Coridale in Lara close to the line on a full waterway reserve project - site preparation and amelioration across more than 8,800 m², 50,000+ tubestock and aquatic plants, 114 advanced trees, more than 6,000 m² of jute matting through the NWL and Ephemeral zones, instant turf and garden bed mulching.

Our Project Managers work closely with experienced field leaders and crew who bring extensive horticultural and technical knowledge to every site - backed by our internal Nursery team streamlining greenlife supply and removing a typical risk and delivery roadblock. Healthy, biodiverse public green spaces for residents matters to our clients - but so does moving quickly through to Practical and Final Completion without unnecessary delay. At Coridale, we're delivering both.

Landscaping works underway at Hunter Park, Moe 🌱

Our East Landscaping team is delivering a major new wetland and waterway project on behalf of Engmil. The project takes in the wetland, retarding basin, sediment pond and connected swale and waterway reserves — all up, that's more than 20,000 m² of site preparation, over 41,000 native tubestock, 4,100+ aquatics, 24 advanced trees, and more than 10,000 m² of jute matting going into the ground.

Following construction and installation, the project moves into establishment maintenance ahead of a 2 year landscape maintenance period - a full cycle managed end-to-end by our skilled Landscape Maintenance team.

We'll share updated photography as the project concludes the installation phase and landscape maintenance begins.

🌱 Roots taking hold at Lake Glenmaggie

Six months on from planting, the Carbon Reforestation Offset Project (CROP) at Lake Glenmaggie is thriving with a plant survivability rate exceeding 95%.

Last week, brought together the , , and Agriculture Victoria to see the progress of this 15-hectare site firsthand.

Our Managing Director, Steve Haughton and Environment Manager Andrew Richards walked the group through the full journey, from species selection and provenance-specific plant growing, through to site preparation, planting, and ongoing management. A project made all the more meaningful by the involvement of and local primary school students in the planting process.

From nursery to native landscape, this is what integrated environmental capability looks like in practice. We're proud to play our part in building a healthier environment for all living communities.

Last week marked an exciting milestone for the AGL Seed Collecting Program, delivered as part of the broader Mine Rehabilitation Program, with the completion of our first official day of seed sorting, weighing, storage and propagation at the Habitat Creations Seed Bank. This important step strengthens the foundations of a high-quality seed collection and propagation program that will directly support future revegetation and land rehabilitation outcomes at the Loy Yang mine site. A standout moment was seeing the very first seed trays prepared and placed into the grow house — the beginning of what will soon become the next generation of seedlings.

A special thank you to Keshia and Nicky from AGL, and to Jake from program partner Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC), for taking the time to be part of this milestone. Internally, the program is being led by Sharen, Manager – Seed Bank, and Andrew, Manager – Environment, whose dedication and experience are central to the program’s success.

Together, this milestone reflects the power of strong partnerships, shared purpose and a commitment to long-term rehabilitation outcomes. We look forward to building on this success as the program continues to grow 🌱

Works at Waterloo Grazing Estate, delivered for client Brosnan Engineering, involved the establishment of a small, water-sensitive landscape system. Across the site, more than 28,000 native plants were installed, including tubestock and aquatic plants across over 6,500 m² of wetland and terrestrial areas. This included submerged, shallow and deep marsh zones, ephemeral planting areas, and mulched terrestrial zones, all supported by jute matting, erosion control, tree guards and targeted bird protection to ensure successful establishment.

Planting was completed in October, and the rapid growth now visible across the site reflects both the quality of plant stock and the expertise of skilled environmental landscapers on the ground. Producing strong, site-appropriate native plants and installing them with care and precision has enabled fast establishment through the warmer months, setting the wetlands up to quickly perform their intended role in water retention and treatment, habitat creation and long-term landscape resilience.
