It’s been a huge few weeks here at Blocked Busters 💪 
 
Over the past three weeks, we’ve been working across a wide range of jobs — from larger drainage repairs through to smaller day-to-day call-outs 🔧 
 
With the recent rain across the Sunshine Coast, we’ve also seen a significant increase in stormwater blockages 🌧️💧, along with a steady flow of urgent and after-hours emergency work 🚨 
 
Unfortunately, that’s also included a number of overflowing sewer situations 🚽😬, which we know can be stressful and unpleasant for homeowners. Our focus has been on responding quickly, identifying the cause, and getting everything cleared and running properly again as efficiently as possible ✅ 
 
We’ve put together a selection of recent jobs below to give you a snapshot of what we’ve been dealing with on the ground 👇📸

🚨 3 PIERS STRAIGHT THROUGH THE SEWER 😳💩 
 
We were originally called out for a major sewer blockage, and after a bit of investigating it didn’t take long to realise something wasn’t right. The main sewer had been hit during the installation of a retaining wall… not once, but three times 😬 and then completely filled with concrete. 
 
Definitely not an “obsolete” line 🚫 
 
Once we got stuck into it, this turned into a pretty technical job. The sewer was running about 1.5m deep through sandy ground, so the trench was constantly caving in on us. We had to work in sections — dig, install, move forward — rinse and repeat all day ⛏️ 
 
There were concrete footings in the way, so we had to dig underneath and around them, and we couldn’t just bypass everything either — the kitchen waste was tied in between the damaged sections. That meant undermining the side path, getting underneath it, and picking that line up properly before tying it back into the new sewer. 
 
On top of that, we had water services, stormwater and underground power all running through the same area ⚠️ so it was slow, careful work the whole way through. 
 
Most of what you can see sitting in the trench is actually raw sewage… so yeah, not the nicest conditions to be working in all day 💩 
 
Ended up being about a 13-hour day on site, but we got it sorted ✅  
 
New section of sewer installed, kitchen reconnected properly, new overflow relief gully in, all tested and backfilled. 
 
The tenants hadn’t been able to use anything since Friday, so they were pretty happy to have everything up and running again 🙌 
 
Good reminder for anyone in construction — if you hit a drain, don’t assume anything. Get it checked properly before covering it up. Could save a lot of time, money and headaches later 👇

🚧 Major Commercial Sewer Repair – Caloundra West 🚧 
 
About 6 weeks ago, we were called out to a major sewer blockage at a commercial property in Caloundra West. 
 
After clearing the blockage with our high-pressure jetter, we carried out a drain camera inspection which revealed several issues causing the ongoing problems: 
 
• Heavy tree root intrusion 
• Ground movement causing sewer damage 
• A belly in the pipe holding sewage 
• A non-compliant stormwater grate connected to the sewer 
 
These issues meant the line would continue blocking unless properly repaired. 
 
This week we returned to complete the repair work. 
 
During excavation we uncovered a buried sewer manhole cover that wasn’t previously visible. From there we: 
 
✔ Replaced approx 2 metres of damaged sewer pipe 
✔ Installed a new inspection opening for future access and maintenance 
✔ Disconnected the illegal stormwater connection from the sewer 
✔ Redirected that stormwater into the property's 250mm stormwater line 
 
The sewer line was around 2 metres deep, making this a challenging excavation. The trench was constantly filling with sewage and the excavator was almost at full reach — definitely not an easy day. 
 
After a 13-hour repair, we completed the installation, backfilled the excavation, and returned the following day for final trimming and site clean-up. 
 
Another sewer system repaired properly and back to full function.

🌧️ Blocked Stormwater Drain Cleared in Buderim — Just in Time for Heavy Rain! 🌧️ 
 
With a big rain event forecast across the Sunshine Coast over the next few days, we’re getting a surge of calls for stormwater blockages. 
 
This priority job in Buderim had severe tree root intrusion in two sections of the stormwater drain. With heavy rainfall on the way, it was important to get this sorted quickly to help prevent flooding and property damage.

December–January Wrap-Up 🎄➡️☀️

What a way to wrap up the year and roll into the next one.

Over the December–January holiday period, we were on call almost every day (with a short breather on Christmas & Boxing Day), responding to a consistent flow of urgent blocked drain call-outs right across the Sunshine Coast.

When most people were switching off, drains definitely weren’t 😅

This also marks a huge milestone for us — wrapping up our first full year in business.
