🔥 Gas Log Fireplace Safety Warning Please read (this needs to end as I've had too many customers play around with there heater in which is extremely dangerous) Please call a gas plumber if you have an issue 🔥
With the colder weather here, many households are starting to use their gas log fireplaces again.
Every year, licensed gas fitters find gas appliances that have been altered, repaired, or adjusted by people who were simply trying to save money or fix a problem themselves.
Gas log fireplaces are not simple appliances. They are carefully designed systems that rely on correct gas pressures, combustion, ventilation, seals, and safety components to operate correctly.
Small changes that may seem harmless can create serious safety risks.
Examples include:
⚠️ Removing or disturbing the front glass – this can affect the appliance seal and combustion process, potentially allowing dangerous products of combustion, including carbon monoxide, to enter the room.
⚠️ Moving, disconnecting, or damaging wiring – one loose connection or incorrectly installed wire can create electrical faults and increase the risk of fire.
⚠️ Adjusting gas pressures or replacing components incorrectly – this can cause poor combustion, excessive soot, appliance damage, or unsafe operation.
⚠️ Removing safety components or altering the appliance design – these safety features are there for a reason and are critical to safe operation.
A gas appliance can appear to be working normally while still creating a serious risk to your home and family.
Unauthorised modifications or repairs may also affect insurance coverage if an incident occurs and the appliance is found to have been altered or not maintained correctly.
Please do not attempt to repair, modify, or dismantle gas appliances unless you are appropriately qualified to do so.
Gas log fireplaces are not as simple as they look — they are precision appliances that require the correct knowledge and equipment to service safely.
If your gas log fireplace:
• has unusual flames
• has soot marks
• smells of gas
• is not operating correctly
• has been worked on or modified
please have it inspected by a licensed gas fitter before continuing to use it.
Stay safe this winter.
