🔧 SMALL ENGINE MECHANIC WANTED! 🐜

Andrew loves to tinker… but we'd rather he was chasing termites and possums than pulling apart carburettors! 😂

At IPM, we reckon prevention beats a breakdown — whether it's pests or petrol engines.

We're looking for a reliable small engine mechanic to build an ongoing working relationship with, keeping our gear serviced, our machines running and our team out in the field where they belong!

🔧 What we're looking for:

- Regular preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing of small petrol engines (Honda GX120 and similar).
- Full servicing, including carburettor cleaning, troubleshooting and parts replacement as required - not just a $300 spark plug change.
- Mobile servicing preferred, as our equipment is vehicle-mounted. You're welcome to work in our Berrimah shed - soft drinks on us!
- If you're also a registered automotive mechanic, we'd be happy to discuss servicing our vehicles too.

🤝 The important stuff:

We're not looking for someone who just turns up when something breaks. We want someone who'll help us prevent breakdowns in the first place.

Reliability is important. We'll organise servicing in advance, have the vehicle and equipment ready for you, and make the process as straightforward as possible.

You must operate a registered and insured business and be able to provide tax invoices.

We're after a long-term working relationship that's good for both businesses.

🐜 We handle the pests. You handle the horsepower 🔧

🔊 Sound On 🔊

It's that time again 🕷 - Mouse spider season!
Right on cue, the first reports for 2026 came through last week.

While not often seen wandering around, they do love to find a nice quiet hiding spot, and are well known to be found in pools and skimmer boxes as they slip in and sink to the bottom.

We can't treat to prevent wandering spiders, but if they find their way into your space, we recommend scooping them up and putting them back outside away from the house. They can give a nasty bite and are moderately venomous to people though, so watch your fingers!

If you're not comfortable capturing them yourself, we do offer a completely free relocation service for any large wandering spiders that have walked into your home - (Mouse Spiders, Trapdoors, Tarantulas) - if we can get there on the day.

Here's a couple of tips to keep your family safe from wandering mouse spiders:

✅ Collect all shoes and toys from outside and bring them in, or keep them at least 30cm above the ground. Mouse spiders struggle to climb smooth vertical surfaces.
✅ Keep all leaves and garden mulch raked up and cleared as wandering spiders will hide in there as it's nice and damp and warm.
✅ Don't leave loose clothing on the ground, keep it in a basket up off the ground.
✅ Fit brush strips or rubber strips to the bottom of doors to close the gap. Mouse spiders only need about 1cm to creep under. (This is also great for keeping rodents and other insect pests out of your home, as under the door is a very common entry point). We can provide this service for you.
✅ Check your pool and skimmer box before jumping in or cleaning it. While they may look dead, spiders have tiny hairs covering their bodies which can trap breathable air, and they will lay in a state of suspended animation when submerged - so always treat a drowned spider as if they're alive!

And if you ever find a critter and you're not sure what it is, or if you need to do anything with it, feel free to send it to us for ID and some free advice. 🙂

✅ Rodent Management Services
✅ Termite/Timber Pest Inspections
✅ Termite Management Quotes (on site and free!)

Last week the team took a morning off the tools to attend the Garrards Roadshow here in Darwin, catching up on new innovations, products, legislation and, of course, some familiar faces from around the pest management industry.

Our mate Georgina from Darwin Pest Solutions snapped this brekky pic with Isaac, Izzy and Ewen.

Garrards are one of our main suppliers, but their support goes well beyond simply supplying products. They’re always there to help us with additional training, sourcing products and equipment, technical advice, and keeping us up to date with changes in the industry.

Being up in Darwin, we don’t always get the same opportunities for industry events and training that are available down south, so we really appreciate Garrards making the trip north and bringing the Roadshow to us.

Thanks to the Garrards Pty Ltd team for a great morning and for your ongoing support of the pest management industry in the Top End!

Andrew’s head for scale 📏

Snaptraps secured in our tamper-proof boxes are one of the safest and most effective ways of removing a rat problem in a sensitive site or open area. Absolute zero risk of secondary poisoning as we use a non-toxic attractant, and the design of the boxes limits access by other wildlife, pets and children.

🚨 We're Growing – Two New Roles Available at Instinct! 🚨

We're looking for great people to join our local team. At Instinct Pest Management, we're proud to be a locally owned business that values teamwork, flexibility, and a positive workplace where people enjoy coming to work.

📍 Current Opportunities:
✅ Operations Scheduler (Full Time M-F)
✅ Administration Assistant (Part Time M-F | Up to 20 hours/week with negotiable work hours during business hours)

Whether you're an experienced administrator, an organised scheduler, or someone who loves keeping things running smoothly, we'd love to hear from you. If the jobs aren't for you, but you know someone, check out our cheeky referral bonus at the bottom ⬇️

Just a bit about each role...

📲 Operations Scheduler 📲
The Operations Scheduler is the person who keeps everything moving behind the scenes, making sure our team, customers and jobs all line up seamlessly. This role is all about creating order from the everyday chaos of a busy service business; coordinating technician schedules, managing customer requirements, keeping jobs on track, supporting business growth opportunities and helping the team deliver a great experience every time. We’re looking for someone who is organised, solutions-focused and enjoys being the go-to person who makes things happen. While scheduling or pest experience is a bonus, the right attitude, attention to detail and ability to juggle competing priorities are what matter most.

💻 Administration Assistant 💻
The Administration Assistant role is all about providing the support that helps our business run smoothly. Working closely with the team, this position will assist with a variety of administrative tasks, coordination, organisation and day-to-day business support, while also providing a helping hand to the Operations Scheduler when needed. This is a flexible part-time opportunity that could suit someone looking to work around school, daycare or other commitments. We’re looking for someone reliable, proactive and organised... someone who genuinely enjoys keeping things tidy, solving problems and being an important part of a small, growing team. No two days will look exactly the same, and a willingness to learn and pitch in is valued just as much as experience.

📧 Apply in confidence or request a copy of the position description by emailing your resume to [email protected]. You're also welcome to call us on 0497 227 860 during business hours if you have any questions about the role.

Know someone who'd be perfect? We'd love to give you a referral bonus! If we hire your suggestions, we'd love to give you $100 off your first (or next!) pest treatment 🤩

Tag them below so we know who you're suggesting.. or share this post and then let us know who you'd recommend by emailing us.
