Solar produces energy in daylight. A battery can help you use some of it later.
Available solar generation can supply daytime loads, with surplus energy used to charge a compatible battery. Stored energy can then supply loads when solar generation falls, subject to the system settings and available charge.
The right setup depends on when you use electricity and what you want the system to do. Blackout backup is a separate design consideration.
