We’re thrilled to announce that FORGE has been engaged to deliver a showpiece community play experience at Society 1056 in Fraser Rise, a fast-growing residential community near Caroline Springs on Melbourne’s western fringe.

Inspired by the form of a sprawling banyan tree, the custom design vision is called ‘Into the Woods’ and was created by long-time FORGE collaborators Spiire for YourLand Developments.

Packed with moments of play for children of all ages and abilities, the eye-catching design has been carefully created to deliver an immersive play experience while maintaining the natural look and feel of a living tree, with roots and branches jutting out from the main ‘trunk’.

“Working closely with Spiire, our role was to take their creative vision for the ‘Into The Woods’ playspace and develop it into something that could be built and brought to life. The banyan tree concept, with its sprawling limbs and hanging roots, created some really unique opportunities to integrate play throughout the design, while staying true to Spiire’s original design intent.”

FORGE is currently leading the design detailing and pre-construction stages alongside Spiire and YourLand to bring this park to life for the Society 1056 community.

High density, high complexity, high expectations

One of Sydney’s most talked about new playgrounds, Gunyama Park (Stage 2) has been an instant hit with local families and FORGE was delighted to play a large role in making it happen.

FORGE was contracted under Regal Innovations to detail, manufacture and deliver the two winding ‘tunnel’ play structures for the City of Sydney on former industrial land at Zetland, just 3km from the Sydney CBD.

Faced with significant creative and logistical complexity, FORGE collaborated closely with the design team at PLACE Design Group to bring their vision for the play structures brilliantly to life, extracting maximum community value from what was a tightly constrained brownfield site.

Delivered within a high-density urban community with limited site access and surrounded by high-rise construction, the brief called for proven methodology and precision planning to deliver the 37-metre junior and 57-metre elevated senior play tunnels on brief and on budget.

“Working with FORGE was a great collaborative process,” said Liam Isaksen, Senior Associate at PLACE Design Group. “Regular meetings with Council to workshop the design made it easy to give real-time ideas and comments to evolve the design further.”

Working hand-in-hand with the Googong landscape architects AECOM, our work to date features pedestrian bridges, waterfront boardwalks, shade shelters, bus stops, an entry sculpture and a customised ANZAC Memorial with six giant laser-cut rolled steel poppy flowers.

Connecting with Country in Western Sydney

Some projects run far deeper than just their aesthetic beauty.

There’s no better example than the series of sculptural ‘Eucalypt Leaf’ shade canopies delivered by FORGE for Transport for NSW along the shared user path of Sydney’s new M12 Motorway.

Designed by local artists, FORGE was appointed to detail, manufacture and install the striking new community structures in collaboration with Indigenous design/strategy agency Balarinji and M12 lead contractor CPB Georgiou.

Highlighting the diverse seasons of Western Sydney, Dharug Country, the eucalypt canopies range from 9.9 metres to 13.6 metres in height and form part of wider immersive cultural experience delivered through a family of artwork installations and outdoor structures along the M12.

Large in scale and highly intricate in design, the unique canopy forms challenged FORGE to transform a complex artistic concept into an outstanding built outcome.

Meticulously finished with lasercut powdercoated aluminium panels, the bespoke twisting forms saw FORGE develop a bespoke prototyping method, while the mild steel structural framing was refined with the extensive use of parametric modelling.

Now open to cyclists, pedestrians and joggers, the canopies also feature integrated LED lighting allowing these remarkable structures to be seen and enjoyed day and night.

Whimsical Whelk Shells | Sir Joseph Banks Park, Botany Bay

When Bayside Council commissioned an all-new $2.75 million destination play space for Sir Joseph Banks Park in southern Sydney, they had a design vision they loved.

The hero element was a soaring 8.7-metre play tower inspired by the ‘whelk’ shells found in nearby Botany Bay, based on an original concept by Jeavons Landscape Architecture.

However—as is often the case with bespoke and large-scale play structures—achieving it in the real world was far from straightforward.

To make it happen, FORGE (formerly Fleetwood Urban) was contracted by Council to meticulously refine and detail the centrepiece tower—a process that saw our design team explore numerous options in collaboration with Jeavons, before identifying the most effective way to safely achieve their design in full accordance with AS 4685.

Once the design was approved by Council, construction was then novated under the principal contractor, Glascott Landscape & Civil.

The result was a whimsical ‘one of a kind’ play experience that’s as structurally sound as it is inspiring—and, unsurprisingly, hugely popular with local families. The multilevel tower invites exploration for all abilities: ground-level rope climbs offer an energetic start, the middle level is designed for inclusive wheelchair access, and the top platform rewards the most adventurous kids with a thrilling 5.5-metre tube slide back to earth.

World Mangrove Day | 26 July 2026

This past Sunday marked World Mangrove Day, recognising the vital role mangrove ecosystems play in protecting our coastlines and supporting biodiversity. Building in these environments requires more than technical expertise - it demands a commitment to working with nature, not against it.

At FORGE, we've been proud to help communities experience these remarkable places through projects that prioritise both environmental protection and long-term performance.

Saltwater Creek Cycleway:
Along the shores of Tuggerah Lake, FORGE delivered an elevated pedestrian and cycle bridge that completes a key missing link in the shared path network. Working within a sensitive mangrove environment and challenging acid sulfate soils, the bridge was pre-assembled off-site to minimise on-site impacts before being installed with marine-grade materials designed for long-term durability in a coastal setting.

Ryde River Walk:
As part of the Parramatta River Walk, FORGE delivered elevated boardwalks using our proprietary MARS™ Boardwalk System, extending this iconic riverside connection through sensitive mangrove habitat. With the site regularly inundated by tides, construction was carefully planned around tidal movements, with manual installation methods and minimal excavation helping to protect the surrounding ecosystem.

Every project presents its own environmental challenges. Our role is to solve them through thoughtful design, careful planning and proven construction methodologies that connect people to nature while preserving the places that make these experiences possible.

The Gables Lake Foreshore is now officially open!

Last Sunday, more than 4,000 locals gathered to celebrate the opening of the new Lake Foreshore precinct at The Gables. It was fantastic to see the community come together to experience this vibrant new waterfront destination, and we're incredibly proud to have played a role in bringing it to life.

FORGE delivered the network of community structures at the heart of this precinct, including 160 metres of boardwalks, pedestrian bridges, all-weather shade shelters and the striking 5-metre-high Swamp Lily adventure play tower overlooking the lake. The project touched virtually every corner of the FORGE business.

It was fantastic to see the community out in force at the opening, alongside Member for Hawkesbury Robyn Preston, The Hills Shire Mayor Dr Michelle Byrne, Aunty Julie Clarke-Jones (Webb) and local residents, marking another milestone in the growth of The Gables.

The result is a cohesive, future-focused public space delivering seamless connectivity and amenity for local residents for years to come.
