Project spotlight: Chau Chak Wing Museum.
Six storeys on the University of Sydney grounds, holding the University's collections of art, science, history and ancient cultures.
Most concrete gets covered up. Not here. Off form walls, off form parapets and exposed topping slabs mean the concrete is the finished surface, so the finish has to be engineered in rather than applied later. The mix, the formwork, the pour rate and the strip all have to line up.
The project went on to take the Overall Excellence award at the American Concrete Institute Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards in 2022, the highest honour in the program. 📷 Brett Boardman
