New project underway — Flemington.

We've just started an almost complete rebuild of this 1885 home. The facade and front half will be restored to their former glory — the verandah, the lacework, the character that makes these old Melbourne homes worth saving.

But the restored front is only half the story. Behind it, we're building a fully electric, airtight, sustainable home:

– Airtight construction with heat recovery ventilation – High-quality windows and doors – Heat pump hot water and induction cooking – Solar panels and high-quality insulation throughout – Rainwater harvesting and reuse – Recycled materials wherever we can

140 years of character out front. A home built for the next 140 behind it.

We’ve been busy in West Melbourne over the past few weeks, solving a pretty tricky design challenge on site. We worked through a few designs to work out a bespoke solution:

🧱 The problem: how to integrate a fire-rated boundary wall with a new box gutter—while keeping it weatherproof, durable and prefabricated.

💡 The solution: a James Hardie zero lot boundary wall system, fixed directly to a custom flashing—making sure no water finds its way into the upper wall or lower structure.

🔩 We also utilised Simpson Strong-Tie screws to meet our tie-down requirements—avoiding the need for traditional hoop iron restraints. A cleaner, more efficient solution on a tight site.

🚀 With limited site access, the team came up with a smart and safe way to lift the wall into place. A great example of innovation, collaboration, and problem-solving on site.

James, our site supervisor, carpenter and project manager extraordinaire has exceeded in effort and ex*****on with the recyling of these two existing steel windows.. now restored and repurposed into hallway sliding doors, complete with self closer!

The Shou Sugi Ban cladding from is officially our favourite and looks seriously amazing with the charred texture on show.

This house is consistantly cozy inside, no matter the outside temperature even during wet, cold winter days and is also very quiet inside due to extra insulation and high quality windows.

We look forward to sharing the final stretch with some beautiful internal finishes to come.
