Experience has taught us that replacements cost more because the site is already working against you. Excavated soil swells. Old walls have to come out. Water still needs somewhere to go. A wall over a metre also brings approvals and structural design, not just materials.

That is why a new concrete sleeper wall can start from around $695 per square metre plus GST on a straightforward site, while a replacement often starts from around $1,300 per square metre plus GST and can climb from there. The extra money is usually in the work you cannot see once the yard is finished.
