Fresh concrete can make almost any driveway look impressive on day one.
The real test is what happens after years of Queensland heat, heavy rain, vehicle loads and ground movement.
One thing many homeowners don’t realise is that more concrete or more steel doesn’t automatically mean a better driveway. Reinforcement cannot rescue poor compaction, incorrect levels or bad drainage. Even concrete thickness should be matched to how the driveway will actually be used, rather than simply making it thicker because it sounds stronger.
That’s why we look at the property before we start talking about colours and finishes.
Where does stormwater travel? How will the new levels meet the garage? Are we protecting weep holes and termite barriers? Where are the stress points that should influence control joint placement? What vehicles will use the driveway now, and what might be parked there five years from now?
Those decisions disappear beneath the finished surface, but they can determine how the driveway performs long after the concrete truck has left.
If you’re planning a new driveway, our latest article explains the decisions worth understanding before construction begins.
