✅ Press the "T" (test) button every 3 months the switch should trip instantly
✅ Flip it back on and you're done
✅ In WA, homes being sold or rented need at least TWO RCDs protecting the circuits

Smoke alarms and detection systems in commercial premises need regular testing to make sure they'll actually activate when it matters. A flat battery or a faulty unit means no warning at all.

Depending on your building, that might be standalone alarms or a full detection system and the testing requirements differ.

Skipping RCD testing and emergency lighting maintenance can lead to:

Emergency lighting testing confuses a lot of WA business owners so here's the simple version. 🗓️

Under AS/NZS 2293.2, your emergency and exit lighting must be inspected and tested every 6 months. The key part is the discharge test: the system is run on battery for its full rated duration (typically 90 minutes) to prove it'll actually last through a real emergency not just flicker on for a moment.

Every test must be recorded in your logbook. 📋 That log is your evidence if a building surveyor, insurer or auditor ever asks.

So, the checklist is:
✅ Tested every 6 months
✅ Full-duration discharge test
✅ Faults repaired and results logged

If you're not keeping records or you're not sure who's responsible for the testing, let's fix that.
