Why are so many tradespeople burning out?

Mitch and I sat down to talk about what we’ve experienced as business owners, and the pressure that comes with trying to keep up in today’s industry.

The trade industry is constantly evolving. New products, new technology, new systems—there’s always something else to learn. It can feel like if you’re not offering the latest thing, you’re getting left behind.

Mitch also makes a great point about customer expectations. People expect you to know every product, every brand, and every solution before you even quote the job.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to offer the complete package, but there’s also a lot to be said for sticking to what you know, doing it exceptionally well, and consistently delivering quality.

I caught up with Mitch from Copper Electrical a few weeks ago to chat about everything happening in the electrical industry at the moment, from the realities of running a trades business, to the things that have shaped our careers over the years.

We both care a lot about the industry and where it’s heading, so this conversation could’ve easily gone for hours. After more than 10 years in the trade, a lot of people ask how we still have the drive and motivation for it, but I think when you genuinely enjoy what you do and take pride in your work, that passion sticks with you.

This time round I wanted to share some insight into how we build our comms rooms.

The installation of certain equipment early not only streamlines installation and testing for us but it allows us to be 100% confident going into the commissioning phase if all cabling is accounted for and has a home.
It’s far more efficient to identify any faults before ceilings and walls are finished.

Look forward to sharing more from this KNX smart home project in the coming months as it takes shape.

Comms room tour - Palm beach

Here we check out what goes into a ‘smart home’ and how we like to set out a majority of our projects.

This one is very much still a work in progress, and will look quite different once we are ready to commission the control gear, sparkie criticising is always expected 🤓

This home will be having a Control 4 interface to integrate all audio, lighting, heating, cooling and Intercoms which sits over the top of the CBus system and brings communication of all of these elements into the 1 place.

While there are a number of systems on the market Control 4 has been selected for this particular project as the client wanted a consistent interface across a number of properties with remote access from the one user friendly platform.

More to follow once we bring this one to life.
