A world class venue for the World Cup, with the help of LATICRETE ⚽.
Today we’re looking back to a monumental project in our recent history that spanned 2016-2020: the construction of SoFi stadium in Los Angeles. This will be the venue for eight matches in the cup, starting tomorrow with the first game in the US since 1994! Other key matches at this stadium include our friends from New Zealand playing their first game on Monday, as well as a quarter final match on July 10th. With the stadium having undergone a brand-new makeover for the FIFA World Cup, let’s look back to where the stadium began.
As the world’s first indoor-outdoor football stadium, this 288,000m² venue had specified over 120 unique types of tile and stone, which required a tremendous amount of coordination and careful planning across bars, bathrooms, kitchens, suites, locker rooms, and more. Each style had to be coupled with specific grout colours and types as well as the proper setting materials.
Dozens of installers from three major subcontractor teams laid these 120+ unique tile installations across the six-story stadium. Each of the tile and stone subcontractors selected only LATICRETE® products for their installation needs, ensuring dependability and top quality. The installation involved SPECTRALOCK® Pro Premium Grout, LATAPOXY® 300, PERMACOLOR® Grout, HYDRO BAN®, and much much more. We’re looking forward to seeing the upcoming games played in this stadium, and we’ll be cheering on our Socceroos in their sixth consecutive World Cup appearance!
