Join the conversation with the Switched On podcast | How First Nations communities are solving long-standing energy security problems with renewables

In the Northern Territory remote First Nations communities have to battle power outages, a reliance on diesel, and mandatory prepaid metres for their electricity that are regularly disconnected when residents don't have the money to top up their power cards. Without access to functional, reliable and affordable power, the basics for a healthy home and community just don't exist.

Join the conversation with the Carbon Copy Podcast | A view of the $1.8 trillion clean energy economy

Can a couple trillion dollars feel small?

Global investments in the energy transition – from the buildout of factories and power projects to project finance and government debt – hit nearly $1.8 trillion last year. It’s nearly 20% more than the year before and nearly eight times more than a decade ago. But even with those record levels of spending, we are astonishingly behind what’s needed to stay on a net-zero trajectory this decade. In this episode, the Carbon Copy crew discuss what’s growing, what’s lagging, and what the trillion-dollar scale means at the ground level.

• FUTURE-PROOFING AUSTRALIA'S ELECTRICITY NETWORK
Australians are shifting towards renewable energy including the electrification of homes, industries, and transportation, alongside lifestyle changes such as increased remote work, all posing significant implications for electricity distribution networks in terms of energy demand, distribution methods, and timing. But how do we find balance and future-proof Australia’s electricity network? (Utility Magazine)

• SOUTH AUSTRALIA FAST-TRACKS 100% RENEWABLES TARGET TO 2027
The South Australia state government says it has fast-tracked its target of “net 100 percent” renewables to 2027 – rather than 2030 – as a result of the state’s new wind and solar developments and its ambitious hydrogen plans. South Australia already leads the world with more than 71 percent (or 74 percent according to government data) of its annual demand being met by wind and solar only over the last 12 months. We had the opportunity to meet these lovely ladies at the 'Hole in the Wall' at Uralla earlier this week. Aunty Pam (pictured on the right) has been going for over a decade. It's for over indigenous Australians over 50 and intended to encourage exercise, create cultural connections across NSW, as well as encourage health checks with a range of health stalls from diabetes to blood pressure and more. They are fundraising to send a team of ten plus 2 reserves - and a carer for one of their participants who can only attend with support - , and a bus and bus driver to the Indigenous Elders Olympics at Kempsey in May 2024. The stall's last day is on Saturday 2nd March at 12 midday so pop in and help them out. The stall has second hand goods, new handmade goods, seedlings and today we were even able to pick up some fresh produce and indoor plants. Stop in and have a yarn. Buy something, donate some cash or donate something to sell, every little bit counts! We've all done some shopping!
