We are excited to announce the design of the new St Francis de Sales College building in Mt Barker, welcoming students from early 2028!

The building design draws inspiration from the surrounding landscape of Mount Barker and the nearby Laratinga Wetlands. Through its architectural form, colour palette and materiality, the design embraces themes of water, reflection and refraction. Reflecting the College’s values and responding thoughtfully to its natural setting, the new facility has been designed to support future focused learning and will feature a range of contemporary learning environments, including a Food and Hospitality Kitchen, Science Laboratories and collaborative student spaces.

Creating a new heart for the campus, the building will connect students and staff and further enhance learning opportunities. We look forward to seeing this exciting new chapter for the College community come to life 🌿✨

Congratulations on 50 years, John!

Last week, former Director and now Education Consultant, John Held, was in the office to share a lunch and to raise a glass with us in toast to his 50 years working with Russell & Yelland.

Despite stepping down from the Directorship and recently relocating to Melbourne with his wife Connie, John remains a dedicated member of our team. As an Education Consultant, he continues to add immense value to stakeholder communications, to technical interrogations, and to the early explorations that inform the designs on our education projects.

John Held, AM. Immediate Past President of the Association of Consulting Architects, Former Deputy Chair of the Australian Construction Industry Forum and Life Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects. Given your vast contributions to South Australian architecture and to the industry at large, we are thrilled to have you as such an integral member of our team.

The new Nazareth College Valetta Road Senior Years Campus is about to break ground! We are delighted to be a part of this exciting project and cannot wait to see this beautiful building come to life.

Woven brickwork and natural textures connect the built form to the surrounding landscape. Co-designed with local Kaurna custodians, the architecture tells a story of the campus's proximity to the Karrawirra Parri (River Torrens) and the cultural significance of reeds, traditionally used by Kaurna men and women for weaving.

The design explores the tension between loose and tight weaving patterns, interpreting these forms through both the building's façade and spatial organisation. The building's shape responds to the concept of an open weave, wrapping around the large gum tree at the front of the site. Gathering areas and reflective spaces flow through and around the building, creating opportunities for connection to nature, culture, and community.

As construction begins, we're excited to turn this vision into a reality that will inspire and serve generations to come. 🤩

An exciting project and a great client makes for a good outcome.

Surrounded by the school oval and trees, St Josephs Port Lincoln Upper Primary, now know as The Hopecentre, sits gently within the site. The building's calm and welcoming feel suggests it has always been part of the school. It’s always satisfying to see a completed project brought to life by the people who use it🤩

A look back at the new boarding facilities completed for St Mark’s College, Port Pirie in early 2025. Featuring private rooms, modern amenities and refreshed communal spaces, the project has helped create a more comfortable and contemporary boarding experience. It’s rewarding to see the positive impact these spaces will have on students and families into the future. ✨
