We put our sparky Eddie on the spot and asked him for one piece of advice he has for an apprentice.

Sometimes the best advice is the simplest kind, and Eddie's response is a pretty good reminder that backing yourself and doing what makes you happy is never really the wrong call. If you know someone who's been thinking about an apprenticeship or a trade career and just hasn't quite pulled the trigger yet, tag them in this one because Eddie might just be the nudge they need.

We recently headed out to a duplex in Nollamara where both homes needed a proper upgrade.

We put eight tradies on site to replace each home's evap air con and install two new whole house water filtration systems. Our electrical and plumbing teams were working along side each other which meant both households got everything wrapped up in a single visit.

Swipe through the photos to see how the job came together, and if you've got a project that needs more than one trade, reach out and we'd love to help sort it out.

This is what it looks like when a multi-trade team shows up with enough people to get the job done in one go. Follow along to see more of what the Smartfix crew gets up to around Perth.

Every few months the whole Smartfix team gets together for a toolbox meeting before the work day begins. Our recent may toolbox was a a really valuable morning for the crew to talk about operating procedures, JSAs and uniform & vehicle expectations.

Toolboxes allow the team to address any issues across the business and make sure everyone is operating to the same standard regardless of their trade or role. It's one of those commitments that might seem straightforward from the outside but has a real impact on the consistency and quality of the service our customers experience day to day.

We also make sure everyone gets a brekky wrap on the morning, to thank the team for coming together before sunrise. Swipe through for a look at how the morning went.

Have you ever wondered what the people behind Smartfix are like? We'd like to introduce you to Zac, one of our sparky apprentices. Zac sat down with us for a round of quickfire questions and he had us laughing.

Zac's personality comes through from the start and honestly it's an accurate representation of the kind of people we're lucky enough to have coming up through the business.

Give it a watch and let us know in the comments if his answers are what you expected.

We had our May sundowner recently and it was a really lovely evening spent with the people who make Smartfix tick.

We had long service awards going out on the evening, which is always one of those moments that feels good to be part of. Congratulations to Jared and Jason on one year each, to Keelie on five years with the team, and to Fin who has now been with Smartfix for eight years. We're really grateful to have people like these four who show up, care about the work, and stick around. It means a lot to be able to celebrate that properly.

We also had the spin the wheel running through the night with dinner gift vouchers up for grabs.

Thanks to everyone who came along and made the night what it was. We genuinely love these evenings and can't wait for the next one.

We asked our fully qualified plumber Owen what advice he would give to apprentices starting out in the trades.

His answer? Just listen. Listen to everything your tradie says and does.

It is not complicated but it is probably the most valuable thing a young apprentice can take on board. The knowledge that comes from simply paying attention on the job every day is something you cannot get from a textbook.

Owen is a great example of what that approach looks like when it pays off. Fully qualified, nearly a year and a half with the Smartfix team, and one of the most switched on people on the tools.

Got any advice of your own for apprentices? Share it in the comments.

Evaporative air conditioner replacement out in Nollamara this week. Here is a look at what the job involves from start to finish.

The old unit is disconnected and brought down from the roof first. The new unit then goes up, gets positioned and secured, connected to the existing ductwork, and wired in. Before the team leaves the system gets a full test run to make sure airflow is consistent through every vent in the house.

Good to have a crew that takes the time to get each step right.

We want to take a moment to shout out our plumber Owen.

Owen recently became fully qualified and we could not be more proud. In the almost year and a half he has been with us he has consistently shown up with a great attitude, worked hard, and looked after every customer he has come across.

If you watched our recent reel of Owen sorting out a cracked sewage pipe in Sinagra, you will know exactly the kind of tradie he is. Calm, capable, and gets it done right.

Well done Owen. The whole Smartfix team is lucky to have you.

Ever wondered what actually goes into replacing a power point? Bailey wore a pair of Meta glasses on this job so you can see it from his point of view.

Here is the process from start to finish:

βœ… Trip power
βœ… Remove the old power point from the wall
βœ… Disconnect the existing wiring
βœ… Connect the wiring to the new power point
βœ… Secure it back into the wall
βœ… Turn the power back on and test

Straightforward for a licensed sparky, but not a job to tackle yourself. If you have got a power point that needs replacing anywhere across Perth, feel free to get in touch.
