At Elanora Four, designed by Alex Urena Building Designer and built by CKS Projects , inside, the boundaries begin to disappear.

Large openings invite bushland and ocean views deep into the home, while the expanded living room and balcony read as one continuous space.

A big shout-out to Brendan Crabb at the Illawarra Mercury who continues to be such a great supporter of our local architecture, design and building community 🙌

Brendan recently caught up with Keiron from CKS Projects to share the story behind the incredible Cliff Top project.

Designed with architect Mike Vail and built on one of the most spectacular (and challenging!) escarpment sites in the Illawarra, it’s a pretty special home — and recently took out the Master Builders NSW Regional Excellence Award for Best Home Under $2 Million.

We love seeing great local projects and the people behind them getting this kind of attention.

Designed for the Sun.

As the day moves, so does the architecture. At Elanora Four, , the open timber pergola above the balcony casts long, rhythmic shadows that slowly shift across the deck, almost like a sundial marking the passage of time.

The same rhythm that defines the façade continues overhead, allowing light itself to become part of the design.

Sometimes the most beautiful material isn’t timber.

A Walk Home.

At Elanora Four, arriving home is part of the experience.

From the timber-clad garage, a bridge-like walkway gently guides you through the landscape before revealing the home below.

Natural timber underfoot. Fine black steel detailing. Bushland on either side.

On steep escarpment sites, the garage often becomes the first encounter with a home.

For Elanora Four in , we loved working with Alex of Alex Urena Building Designer to make that arrival part of the architectural story.

Wrapped in vertical timber, the garage sits naturally within the bushland, while a projecting window captures light and one of Coledale’s remarkable ocean views.

As Alex says: “The garage often gets the best ocean view on these escarpment properties. So why shouldn’t that space enjoy it too?”

🥁R H Y T H M.

Every project begins with an idea.

For designer Alex Urena Building Designer that idea was rhythm in Elanora Four, in .

From the rear, the home is divided into four balanced bays. Paired timber posts create repetition, while the enclosed sunroom and open balcony read as one continuous space.

It’s a subtle beat.

Half enclosed. Half open.

Yet together they create a calm symmetry, allowing the architecture to quietly frame the ocean beyond.

The paired timber posts introduce a measured cadence that gives the home both elegance and presence.

In collaboration with Architectural Hardwood Joinery two beautifully crafted square timber glass doors reinforce the rhythm of the composition, creating a façade that feels timeless rather than fashionable.
