Build a Career in Lawn and Garden Maintenance

Grasswork Lawn Care is looking for another reliable and motivated person to join our growing Townsville team.

This is initially a casual position, with the potential to become permanent and progress into greater responsibility.

Experience is helpful but not essential. We can teach the technical skills but you must bring reliability, attention to detail, a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn.

The role may include:

-Residential and commercial mowing
-Edging and line trimming
-Garden, hedge and shrub maintenance
-W**d management and lawn treatments
-Lawn renovations and top dressing
-Irrigation inspections and minor repairs
-Acreage and overgrown-property mowing
-Equipment, vehicle and trailer care
-Digital job records and client updates

This is active outdoor work involving walking, bending, lifting and operating machinery in Townsville’s heat and humidity. You’ll initially work within a small team, with increasing independence as your skills develop.

You’ll need:

-A current driver’s licence
-Reliable transport and Australian working rights
-The ability and willingness to tow and reverse a trailer
-Good communication and attention to detail
-The physical capacity for year-round outdoor work
-A dependable and professional attitude
-A willingness to follow instructions and safety procedures

Lawn care, gardening, commercial mowing, irrigation or chemical-application experience is advantageous but not essential. White Card, Blue Card, National Police Check and ACDC qualifications are also desirable.

Grasswork offers consistent work, competitive pay based on capability, quality commercial equipment, practical training and genuine opportunities to progress into an independent maintenance run or crew-leader role.

What Is Lawn Core Aeration and Why Does It Matter?

Over time, regular foot traffic, mowing and heavy rainfall can compact the soil beneath your lawn. Compacted soil restricts the movement of air, water and nutrients, making it harder for the roots to grow and the lawn to perform at its best.

Core aeration uses specialised equipment to remove small plugs of soil from the lawn. This helps to:

✅ Relieve soil compaction
✅ Improve water and nutrient pe*******on
✅ Increase oxygen around the root zone
✅ Encourage deeper, stronger root growth
✅ Improve drainage and reduce surface run-off
✅ Support a thicker, healthier lawn

For best results, we recommend scalping and dethatching the lawn before core aeration. Removing excess leaf material and thatch allows the coring equipment to work more effectively and helps water, oxygen, nutrients and soil amendments reach the root zone.

Core aeration is especially valuable for high-traffic areas, hard or compacted ground, and lawns where water struggles to soak into the soil.

Today we completed a full garden transformation, replacing an outdated landscape with a fresh, low-maintenance solution that's built to last.

This project included:
• Removal of all existing hedges
• Removal of the old irrigation system, which was no longer operating efficiently due to its age and numerous previous repairs
• Supply and installation of new Up & Away hedges
• Complete replacement of the irrigation system throughout both garden beds using quality irrigation components
• Finishing both gardens with premium tea tree mulch

A reliable irrigation system is the foundation of a healthy garden. With new irrigation, fresh hedging, and a quality mulch finish, these gardens are now set up for efficient watering and long-term growth.

Garden Transformation Complete

This garden had taken a beating after multiple trades had completed their work, leaving behind damaged gardens, building rubble and poor soil conditions.

Our team completely transformed the space by:

- Removing all existing vegetation and construction debris.
- Excavating and improving the soil profile to create a healthy growing environment.
