For those listening to ABC Southern Qld Gardening talkback this morning, we spoke about the lack of double stocks (Matthiola varieties) available as seedlings lately.
Here’s the website that our kind listener Shel sent me. She purchased the seeds and grew them on, and her white ‘Avalanche’ stocks are around 80% double flowered, a good result!

This Rhipsalis baccifera is in a scant hanging basket under our Magnolia laevifolia, but just keeps on keeping on!
A good year for flowering.
I must repot it when it’s done blooming.

Our large Magnolia laevifolia (was Michelia yunnanensis) is just beginning to burst forth for its traditional spring flowering season. This stunning evergreen small tree blooms profusely at this time, covering itself in white, fragrant flowers that eventually drop their petals to cover the ground like snow. When in full bloom, the constant hum from visiting bees is a reminder that the warmer weather is upon us!
