HDPE. It’s what most commercial drainage systems are built from in the modern world. If you’re building a commercial kitchen or buying into one, here’s what’s actually worth knowing about it. 💦
The biggest difference is how it’s connected. Instead of traditional glues, clamps or rubber seals, HDPE joins are WELDED together. The fitting and the pipe become one continuous piece of material, no joins to fail.
That construction is why it holds up where it counts. HDPE resists around 95% of the acids, alkalis and chemicals that run through a commercial system, so it suits trade waste, commercial kitchens, labs and industrial drainage. It takes hot discharge comfortably (roughly -20 to 80 degrees in continuous use), and it’s about six times lighter than old school cast iron.
