A good timber flooring install starts with a good acclimatisation process. These 180mm wide Ironbark floorboards have about 1mm to shrink before we install them. This will take about 3 weeks to achieve at the current and predicted relative humidity on site, compared to the current moisture content of the floor boards. There’s a bit of science behind it, but knowing why & how timber reacts to moisture is one of the reasons I have never had a floor failure, despite timber floors being one of the most common failures of new builds.

A beautiful Turpentine floor. Turpentine as a species has a similar look to Brushbox, but is much harder to sand. Especially difficult to get it this flat, but we managed 😉. The final coat on this job was a 2-pack semi-gloss water-based finish.
