PROJECT UPDATE | SMC Amenities

Watcon Building Group is proud to update that construction of the new Amenities Block in Centenary Court has officially reached the halfway mark. A milestone that holds special meaning for our team and the school community.

What truly sets this project apart is the people behind it. A team that includes both former and current students who once walked these same grounds and are now contributing to its future. Among them are Joe Watson, Director of Watcon Building Group, and Kerry Martin, Associate – Senior Project Manager, both proud past students.

A special mention goes to Calla Projects, who are delivering the Ceilings & Partitions works as well as the Carpentry Package. Director Warwick Callaghan, a past student of SMC, continues connections by supporting school-based apprenticeships. One of those students is Tyler Murtagh, a current Year 12 student completing his school‑based apprenticeship and gaining onsite experience through Calla Projects.

We also acknowledge Jake Durie, a 3rd year Apprentice Carpenter and a past student. Jake also being a family member to Watcon Building Groups Contract Administrator Tarla Judd. Their involvement is a reminder of how schools shape futures and how those futures can circle back to contribute to the College in many ways.

This project is more than a building, it represents a legacy for the next generation.
Halfway built, and we’re honoured to be part of it.

PROJECT UPDATE | SMC AMENITIES BLOCK

Watcon Building Group is proud to announce the construction works at St Mary’s College, Toowoomba involving St Mary’s College (Client), Aspect Architects & Project Managers (Superintendent) & Watcon Building Group (Building Contractors). This project is part of the College’s Masterplan and has been a long time coming for both staff and students! Demolition works are currently underway, marking the first stage of the project. Construction works will include removing the existing amenities block and delivering a brand new, modern amenities facility with surrounding landscaping, designed to enhance the school’s infrastructure and provide improved functionality for students and staff.

This project is situated in the heart of an active school environment, with students attending classes, staff on-site, and grounds personnel maintaining operations. Due to the restricted site footprint, access management and logistics coordination are critical throughout the construction phase to ensure safety and efficiency.

A unique aspect of this project is the connection to the school community: Joe Watson (1997 graduate) and Kerry Martin (2003 graduate), both former students, are part of the team delivering this build. Additionally, Bodie Land a current student is a cousin of Tarla Judd, adding another personal link to the project.

PROJECT UPDATE | Concordia Stage 2 🚧

Major milestone on site! The main concrete slab pour wrapped up after an early start and 26 truckloads of concrete! Shout out to all involved who helped the process go smoothly.

COMPLETED PROJECT ✅ | Platinum Pulp Cold Room Extension

We are proud to announce another successfully completed project by Watcon!

For this project, we relocated two modules, each measuring 15m x 4m, approximately 25 metres from their original position to accommodate the construction of a new cold room extension in their former location.

The scope of works included the construction of two new silo bases and a cold room extension of approximately 400 square metres, which included a new loading dock. Internal modifications were carried out, including the demolition of existing walls and concrete hobs, which were reinstalled in new locations to accommodate the revised layout. New rapid roller doors, roller shutters, personnel access doors, and protective bollards were installed. The area was completed with a durable epoxy floor finish throughout.

Thank you to all involved who made this project run smoothly. This project was exceptionally rewarding as Sunny Queen's is a repeat Client of our Director!
