Asbestos cement flue pipes, cowls and fittings were used in houses, garages and apartment blocks prior to 1990. They were also used in community building and plant rooms for multi-storey buildings with central heating units.

Asbestos cement was used in flue components for attachments to slow combustion heaters, gas hot water systems, cookers, central heating units and wood burning heaters.

Asbestos cements pipes came in a range of shapes and sizes, and large, rounded asbestos cement pipes often looks like PVC.
