There’s more to becoming an electrician than just running cables. Our apprentices Ryan and Rory are learning to read and understand electrical plans — an important part of seeing the bigger picture and getting the job right. ⚡

Storm season is here. Is your home ready? ⛈️ ⚡

Sydney storms can bring heavy rain, lightning, strong winds and unexpected power outages. But losing power isn’t the only thing homeowners need to think about.

Power surges, electrical faults and water getting into electrical equipment can all create risks — particularly in older Sydney homes with ageing wiring or switchboards.

So, what should you do if the power goes out? And what should you check once it comes back on?

In our latest blog, we cover what Sydney homeowners should know about electrical safety before, during and after a storm — including power surge protection and the warning signs that shouldn’t be ignored.

When the details matter, so does what sits behind them.

We’re proud to have been involved in the electrical works at Leesthorpe, Mosman — a remarkable Sydney home designed by MiM Design Studio and recently featured in Vogue Living.

Projects at this level are all about considered ex*****on. Every element needs to work seamlessly with the architecture and interiors, without taking away from the design itself.

For our team, that means getting the details right, working closely with the wider project team and delivering an electrical finish worthy of the home.

We’ll be sharing more from Leesthorpe over the coming weeks, including a closer look at some of the work that went into bringing this home together.

We’ll be back on deck Tuesday, ready to get stuck into it.

⚠️ A Tripped Circuit Uncovered a Dangerous Issue
We were called to investigate why the C-Bus system had stopped controlling the lighting throughout an apartment.
Our testing found that one of the lighting circuits had tripped. After resetting the circuit, we thoroughly tested the lighting and the C-Bus system—all were operating correctly.
However, while investigating the switchboard, we discovered a separate and potentially dangerous wiring issue. An undersized cable linking the neutral bars had overheated and melted onto the switchboard, creating a hot joint.
Our electrician Aaron replaced it with the correctly sized conductor and repaired and re-terminated the heat-damaged cabling before further damage could occur.
Although this fault did not cause the lighting circuit to trip, it highlights why thorough testing and fault-finding are so important. Sometimes the issue you can’t see is the one that presents the greatest risk.
Professional diagnosis. Thorough workmanship. The Astley Way.
