Expansive glazing frames uninterrupted views, while the open-plan layout and natural material palette create a seamless connection between indoors and out. Cape House references the geological formation of the same name found along the Australian coastline as the conceptual framework for the architecture.
The floorplan of the building has been deigned to provide protection from the prevailing Southerly winds whilst simultaneously offering the occupants elevated views over the Pacific Ocean toward the iconic lighthouse at Cape Byron.
Passive design principles have been used to blur the lines between indoor and out. Masonry elements provide thermal mass to regulate the core-temperature of the building, while operable glazing elements not only maximise views over the ocean and offer cross-flow ventilation to the occupants. This is a building designed to heighten the connection to the outdoors.
The building’s materiality was carefully selected to suit the rigors of it’s coastal location and draws ques from the immediate natural environment.
Basalt/Bluestone was selected to reference the geological formation of the nearby Broken Head and Cape Byron Headlands.
Spotted Gum veneer and cladding pays homage to the Eucalypts which cover the entire East Coast of Australia.
Deep Green ‘Verde Alpi’ stone takes it’s inspiration from the hues of the littoral rainforest adjacent site.
Cape House which considers the natural environment at every level, providing the occupants an opportunity to connect with ‘place’ throughout their daily rituals. 📸

We hand picked Coakers Building after being very familiar with their level of quality and professionalism on-site, as well as finding the team, lead by Matt and Chris, very personable and passionate about the building process. They were more than happy to work collaboratively with us and our architect, to create a truly unique and impeccably built family home.

On-site the team were always approachable, knowledgeable, innovative and happy to go above and beyond. The end result is exactly what we had wished for and we couldn’t be happier with the quality and service we have received throughout the whole process.

What can be a stressful process for so many when building their dream family home, was in fact quite the opposite for us and for this we are really grateful.

Thank you to Matt, Chris and the team at Coaker’s Building! We will definitely be using the guys again for any future projects.
