Is this where we wanna be on a Thursday morning?
Definitely not. Unfortunately, this morning has been spent at the courthouse starting the process to recover money for work completed months ago. At Boxwell Electrical, we pride ourselves on being honest, reliable, and delivering quality workmanship. We get that life happens, and we’re always happy to communicate and work with customers who are upfront with us.
But what we can’t keep doing is absorbing costs when invoices are ignored, or excuse after excuse is used instead of payment. Court action is always a last resort. It’s time consuming, frustrating, and not how we wanna spend our days. We’d much rather be out helping our customers than sitting in a courthouse, and it can end up costing more than the original invoice. Once legal action starts, there is court filing fees and other costs that could have been avoided by just paying the invoice, or communicating up front.
Like many small businesses, Boxwell Electrical isn’t a big corporation with endless resources. I’m a one-man business, and when an invoice isn’t paid, I’m the one who wears that cost. That money isn’t extra. It pays for materials, fuel, insurance, tools, and supports my family.
When an invoice goes unpaid, it creates a ripple effect that goes way beyond a single job. The reality is, most of our customers are honest, respectful, and pay on time. And we genuinely appreciate every one of them. They’re the people we’re always happy to go the extra mile for, whether it’s fitting in an urgent job or being flexible when they’re upfront with us. But when a small number of people choose not to pay, it erodes that trust. It forces small businesses like ours to bring in stricter payment terms, ask for deposits, or payment before work begins. Not because we want to, but because we have to protect ourselves from being left out of pocket.
To everyone who supports local businesses and pays on time, thank you. Your honesty, respect, and support allow us to keep serving the community with the personal service and flexibility we’d much rather be known for.
