A sagging gate is easy to ignore. It is also your gate telling you the welds are starting to fail, and the whole structure is next.
Most homeowners wait until a gate becomes a full replacement job. Here are 3 warning signs that mean it is time to book a repair.
1. The gate sags or won't latch
When a gate droops at one corner or won't line up with the latch, the welds holding the frame together have likely weakened. This isn't a hinge issue. The frame itself is losing structural integrity, and it gets worse with every open and close.
2. Rust around the welds
Surface rust looks cosmetic, but it eats into the metal underneath. Once rust reaches the weld joints, it hollows out the bond between sections. A gate that looks solid can be structurally compromised if the welds are corroded.
3. The hinge feels loose or grinds
A hinge that grinds, wobbles, or feels loose is under serious stress. Hinges carry the full weight of the gate every time it moves. Once a hinge starts failing, the gate can drop suddenly or pull away from the post, which is a real safety risk.
Catch these signs early and it is usually a straightforward weld repair. Leave them too long and you are looking at a full frame replacement.
We come to you across Sydney with professional on-site welding, so there is no need to remove the gate or visit a workshop.
