People and timber doors have something in common.

Sometimes they look a little tired,
a little worn,

but that doesn't mean they need replacing.

Sometimes all they need is a bit of care and attention.

This project involved restoring a timber front door.

The sanding stage actually takes the most time.

It's one of those jobs you can't rush.

Skip a step,
and the final finish will show it.

A lot of maintenance work is like that.

People usually see the finished result,

but most of the effort happens during the preparation.

And honestly...

sanding a timber door is a bit like giving it a facial 😆

By the end, it looked refreshed and ready for many more years.

Gutters are a bit like dads.

Nobody really notices them.

Nobody compliments them.

Nobody takes photos of them.

They just quietly do their job every day 😆

Then one day they start leaking, overflowing or causing problems...

and suddenly everyone pays attention.

This project was all about replacing an old gutter system.

Honestly, I think the happiest thing was giving that old gutter a well-earned retirement 😂

Hopefully next time it rains,
the homeowner will be looking at the garden instead of the gutter.

One question I get all the time:

"Should be a quick assembly job, right?"

Usually I just smile 😆

Some IKEA furniture comes in a fairly small box...

Then you open it.

Boards, screws and fittings everywhere.

Sometimes it feels like building a giant LEGO set.

Miss one step,
and you might be undoing the next twenty.

The good news is I've already made those mistakes so you don't have to 😅

Sometimes the biggest problem with a deck

isn't the decking boards you can see.

It's what's underneath.

For this project, we kept the existing balustrade,
while replacing parts of the support structure and decking boards.

When a deck starts feeling soft, loose or uneven,
the issue is often below the surface.

The framing and supports have usually been working hard for many years through sun, rain and weather.

Deck repairs can be a bit like visiting a doctor 😆

The symptom is on the outside,
but the real problem is often hidden underneath.

The finished result keeps the original look,
but is much stronger and safer to use.

One interesting thing is,

most people don't really notice their bathroom vanity...

until one day,

the doors stop closing properly,
the bottom starts swelling from moisture,
or there's simply not enough storage left 😅

This time we replaced an old vanity with a new one.

My favourite part isn't the installation itself.

It's when the client walks in and says:

"Wow, that looks so much better."

Sometimes a small change can make a space you use every day feel completely different.
