A refined backyard transformation designed around simplicity, privacy and clean lines.

The combination of travertine natural stone tiles, lush bamboo screening and a beautifully finished lawn creates a private, low-maintenance outdoor space that feels both functional and inviting.

The bamboo provides a strong natural screen while softening the surrounding brickwork and fencing, with the tiling creating a seamless connection between the side entry and turf area.

Another outdoor space built with attention to the details. 🌿 The Bluegum way the only way!

A challenging side-access structural retaining wall required to replace an existing failing besser block wall pushing over 45lm in length and 1.6m in height.

The wall was engineered and constructed with structural integrity as the priority. We utilised concrete sleepers supported by galvanised steel posts embedded that were embedded in 1.9m concrete footings. Each sleeper was reinforced with three n12 bars providing additional strength and stability throughout the wall.

Working within a confined space between the existing house and wall required careful planning, precise excavation and meticulous installation to achieve the required levels and alignment along the full 45m length.

The finished result is a strong, durable retaining structure that integrates cleanly with the surrounding buildings while creating a practical and hard-wearing side accessway.

45m of structural retaining. Built with purpose, precision and longevity in mind. The Bluegum Way.

Every stone has its own shape, grain and character. Bringing them together isn’t about making them fit—it’s about understanding the material and letting the natural lines flow. (Not using a grinder to cut it all in if you know what I mean)

This custom random stone cladding was hand-selected and carefully laid to create a facade that feels timeless, solid and completely unique. The depth, texture and variation in every piece ensure no two walls are ever the same.

The cobblestone pathway highlights to colours and textures blending it all together as one piece.

It’s the finer details that transform natural stone into a feature that will stand the test of time.

A well-designed landscape doesn’t need to shout to make an impact.

This front garden was designed to create a welcoming entrance, combining sandstone, organic bluestone steppers, textured planting and cypress mulch to deliver a space that’s both functional and visually balanced. Every plant was carefully selected and positioned to provide year-round interest while allowing the landscape to mature beautifully over time.

It’s the attention to detail—from the layout and spacing through to the finishing touches—that transforms a simple garden into something special.

Every detail matters.

This custom pool coping wasn’t simply laid—it was individually templated, cut and shaped to create a seamless transition around the pool’s unique curves and centre feature. Achieving clean, symmetrical lines through natural stone requires careful planning, precise cutting and a commitment to getting every joint exactly where it belongs.

Natural stone leaves no room for shortcuts. Each piece had to be worked into place so the geometry remained balanced while following the flowing radius of the fibreglass shell. The result is a finish that looks effortless, but represents hours of craftsmanship.

It’s these finer details that separate an ordinary installation from one built to last and designed to be unique.

When it comes to tiling myself and Wayne and the Bluegum team make sure we are doing everything in our power to ensure they are being laid correctly.

Choosing the right adhesives to suit the tile in the right environments, choosing the right grouts to fill the joins and the right silicone to maximise expansion all ensure the project lasts over time. They arent being slapped in, wet laid or lippy. It’s not rushed.

Every mitre, every joint and every transition has to be considered long before the first tile is laid. From the alignment of the pattern to the the precision of the cuts and the integration of the drainage all contribute to a finish that looks effortless.

It’s this attention to detail that separates a standard installation from one that will continue to look exceptional for decades. I can sleep at night knowing I have done everything I can to ensure they are being installed correctly.

We take pride in slowing down where it matters, because true craftsmanship can’t be rushed. I see a lot of nonsense out there but I know we do it right. The Bluegum Way âšȘïžđŸ””âš«ïž

Conquered in Camden đŸ§±

In February this year the BluegumLP team undertook a large project replacing an existing besser block wall and concrete pathways situated in Sydney’s outer southwestern suburbs.

Meeting with Mende and Courtney onsite, the first thing we discussed was the need to replace the existing boundary retaining wall, it possessed a significant lean cutting off side access to the property and more importantly becoming a safety hazard.

Like almost all walls in NSW council approval was required prior to construction. Particularly most of these meet CDC requirements under the planning act however I have built multiple that require DA approvals as well.

Retaining walls are significant structures that if not built correctly, fail often. The importance of engineering, architectural planning, Sydney water approval and Home warranties insurance are all paramount steps in constructing the right retaining wall. These days there aren’t many walls that meet Exempt development and we always urge customers to go down the route of gaining the correct approvals.

The removal of the existing wall that was 1.6m high and 43lm took some serious work to remove. However part of its failure was the lack of drainage behind the wall, as well as steel not being tied into the existing footing.

Once demolished a new engineered concrete sleeper wall was installed. Holes were excavated as deep as 1.9m for a 1.6m high wall, concrete sleepers with 3 x N12 steel reinforcement, significant drainage components and correct pinning and packing for sleepers.

New fencing was installed behind the wall using 4.2m 65x 65 steel posts that were anchored into the same concrete pier as the wall.

New concrete pathways were poured down both side passages with the correct storm water system installed and replaced.

The end product - a huge difference and upgrade, but most importantly the reassurance that everything has been constructed correctly with sign offs from private certifiers and engineers.

We battled plenty of harsh conditions during this build. Hot humid days demolishing the existing wall, large excavation, significant downpours filling holes and causing delays. However we persevered and got it done.

We couldn’t have done it without the help from our clients Mende and Courtney. Their hospitality was second to none and Mende jumped in on plenty of occasions to help us dig, clean and finish up. Much appreciated.

The end result a massive one. Thank you the Mitch and Conor for coming to help stack the sleepers, Borny and Mark for their excavation and to all our suppliers.

This was a very physically demanding project for myself and Wayne. Keep posted for our current projects đŸ””âš«ïžâšȘ

Living in limestone ⭐

In February this year we completed a small pool tiling project in Seaton Grange.

After meeting with Michael, I was able to establish that part of this project involved his need to complete some of the components of the landscape himself. Our job was the lay the pool coping and body of tiles surrounding the pool.

As standard we set out in mapping out the coping and laying the tiles which were to be undertaken via a direct stick to existing slab poured by the pool company.

Typical with fibre glass pools they are never level and the concrete poured around the pool had an unlevel surface. After some cosmetic works to get it ready to go we got cracking in laying the tiles.

The end product was a stack bond style lay out with coping cut short at even increments on the short ends of the pool to match the layout.

One aspect that always makes it difficult for the installer and an important note for clients, is the calibration of Eygptian limestone. Their thickness tend to vary greatly, tumbled edges chipped and they can be out of square. This is typical amongst this stone and something worth noting.

Given these issues we laid the stone almost perfect.
