Gallant in Glenbrook 🍃🔨
I have been landscaping for 20 years in various roles and 11 years running BluegumLP. I must say I’ve been privileged to complete many beautiful projects over this time. All of which I’m proud of.
However this was a truely special project. Most would look at it and think it’s crazy paving, nothing out of the ordinary. For us though, it was countless tedious hours dealing with many different aspects that affected how we laid the stone.
I was referred to our awesome clients Sally and Mark via Nuj from EcoOutdoor. Builder Jeff contacted me on their behalf and had me come to assess the project.
The stone supplied was that of an Italian man-made terrazzo. It’s beautiful but has elements that are different to that of other natural stones. It is moisture sensitive, brittle given its terrazzo, requires special rapid setting adhesives when laid and it came in rectangle slabs.
What did this mean for myself and Wayne? It meant hand carving every single piece from a rectangle slab into a custom crazy paving piece. We keep the joins clean and consistent with no large gaps, we ensured a consistent size range during installation with large, medium and small pieces. Slabs were pre sorted prior to install. We also required rapid setting glues to prevent curling, moisture staining or alkaline being absorbed into the stone as it cured. The adhesives we worked with were rapid setting giving us a very short window to lay stone before they set which was made more difficult as the floors weren’t 100% level.
The result, weeks of hand cutting, carving and laying. We dry laid the entire area out first and then individually lifted and laid every piece. I can swear to you it is dead level. We mitred the stair ensuring one piece flowed from top tread to riser to bottom tread.
We would love to thank our clients Sally and Mark who were so understanding and fantastic to work with, they were patient and were there every step of the way trusting us to install the flooring. Builder Jeff for his assistance through the project and the reps that supplied us with the correct glues, grouts and sealers.
It was a process, one I am privileged to have been trusted to undertake and proud of Wayne’s skill to lay it with me. The BluegumLP way 🔵⚫️⚪️. Can’t wait for the other sections to complete and the house to be complete.
