After a multi-million dollar makeover the upgraded and expanded Parramatta Town Hall re-opened last week! The final piece of the puzzle in the Parramatta Square transformation, the restoration of the 140 year old Town Hall has bought the city's past into the present.

Last Friday’s official opening of Unanderra Station was one of the most special opening events we have ever participated in!

Starting with a by Dr Jodi Edwards, attendees then joined a procession, led by from the nearby Temple who the new facility.

Located in the south of Sydney, Unanderra Station has been upgraded to be accessible, welcoming and connected to Country. Sydney provided , and design services for the upgrade, working with to connect with Traditional Custodians and to bring stories of into the design.

The upgraded Towradgi Station is open!

Located in the region between the and the , has been upgraded with and for the local .

As well as providing integrated , and design services for the upgrade, the and teams worked together to apply a Designing from methodology, consulting with to understand the stories of the site and bring them into the .

New and upgraded station facilities include a new footbridge with safety screens, new and connecting from the to the platforms, platform canopies to provide shelter for passengers, an accessible bathroom as well as wayfinding and lighting. Multi-modal is supported through inclusion of bicycle hoops, kiss and ride spaces and improved accessible pedestrian pathways linking the station to the surrounding suburban streets. Connections to the adjacent pocket park are improved through pathways, landscaping and seating.

The upgraded Bellambi Station is open!

Located north of
,
is a primarily
suburb between the
Escarpment and the Pacific Ocean.

design,

design services for the upgrade, working closely with
to bring stories from
into the design.

The physical experience of entering the station is an intimate view reflecting the natural geometry an important stories of the local area. The form of the new takes inspiration from the Illawarra Escarpment, falling gently to the south, with the soffit and walls that frame the station entry integrating textures inspired by rocks at the nearby Bellambi Point. Bellambi Point has as a burial ground, tool site, bush schoolroom and meeting site and one of the major sites for the whale .

The upgraded station caters to the needs of the rapidly growing
, providing
facilities as well as a distinctive place that integrates stories
of the cultural and natural context. Applying a approach, the
place-specific design emerged through a analysis followed by an
design process, testing the public domain elements and their
interplay to arrive at the final design.

After a number of years of , , and , the new southern concourse at is open!

provided integrated , and design services for the
project from initial concept through official opening last weekend.

The precinct design is underpin by a wetlands theme, with the concourse building described as the ‘Mist over the Landscape’.

Applying a designing from Country methodology involving
consultation with both
and later
, this wetland theme was further enhanced by graphics and

throughout the precinct. The façade of the building is clad
with a gradated
, detached from the roof by perimeter skylights, floating over the
landscape, never touching the ground. As you move through the concourse, you become aware that the façade design gives you an experience of walking through mist.

Last night and were thrilled to host a panel discussion ‘Be a Voice for Generations’ in our Sydney studio. A fantastic lineup of speakers included:

- Nikyah Hutchings (Wonnarua/Wiradjuri Nation), First Nations Consultant at Indigenous social change agency

- Damien Barnes (Bidjara Nation), Chair,

- Craig Kerslake (Wiradjuri Nation), Director,

The speakers shared their and about a range of topics related to , , and and differences within First Nations communities. They discussed the upcoming to , concurring that a YES vote would be the best ‘next step’ in the journey towards , and for First Australians.

Everyone, whoever and wherever they are, has a right to the highest attainable standard of mental health. This includes the right to be protected from mental health risks, the right to available, accessible, acceptable, and good quality care, and the right to liberty, independence and inclusion in the community.

At we actively support the and of our team in a range of ways. As well as celebrating in all forms – including creating a safe space for – we have a group of Mental Health who are trained in mental health , our Employee Access Program offers sessions to all staff, and we offer two ‘Be at your Best’ days per year.

Last month, DesignInc Sydney Associate Michael Kahn took a studio of architecture students on a tour of Sydney's rail infrastructure along the Goods Line. The students learned about the history of the rail corridor and its role in shaping Sydney since its construction in 1855.

Along the walk, Michael spoke with them about the vestiges of past projects that still define the urban landscape today-and what designers can learn from the choices in the past to shape future design outcomes.
