Ask a family with a good outdoor room where they spend their time. It’s never the formal lounge.
It’s the space off the kitchen. Dinners, homework, weekends, birthdays.
It’s also the least expensive living area you can add to a home, and when you sell, buyers read it as extra living space rather than a job still to do.
Two things decide whether you get that or an empty deck: level access from the kitchen, and comfort planned before the framing goes up.
