This week The RIX Groups Piling team made the short journey from Sydney to Cairns! Some 2,400km 'up the road' to install deep foundations for an upgrade to the Skyrail Cableway - a 7.5-kilometre scenic tourist cableway running above the Barron Gorge National Park.

Taking with them their 120T Bauer BG33 piling rig to construct 20m+ deep, 900mm CFA piles in a tricky site environment.

The logistics involved to mobilise to such a faraway location, transporting heavy plant and equipment is no small feat, and considering the distance from home, our team went over and above to ensure nothing was missed and the project was delivered with the highest quality, on time and on budget.

Well done to all involved.

On 13 July 2026, The RIX Group completed Australia’s first large-scale installation of the NX Earth Truss foundation system.

This milestone makes RIX the first contractor to deliver this technology at utility scale in Australia, installing thousands of foundations directly into the ground using our TD3.5 fleet across a major solar project in regional New South Wales.

Reaching this milestone required a significant effort from our field crews and engineering team. We would also like to thank Nextpower for its technical support throughout the project.

The experience, systems and capability developed on this project have positioned RIX to deliver future utility-scale solar projects, including sites with more challenging ground conditions.

We are proud of what the team has built.

For developers and EPC contractors with utility-scale solar projects in the pipeline, there is a more efficient way to approach foundation installation.

The RIX Group recently completed embankment stabilisation works to a failing sandstone embankment over 6m high, sitting directly below residential properties and above a live residential street at Rembrandt Drive, Middle Cove.

The scope required both structural performance and a high standard of finish, with the completed works required to match the natural sandstone character of the surrounding environment.

Works included the installation of 72 rock bolts followed by steel mesh and shotcrete with oxide colouring and hand carving to recreate the natural sandstone appearance.

The RIX Group values its relationship with Willoughby City Council and is proud to have delivered a solution that not only restored the safety of the street but met the highest aesthetic expectations of the client and local community.

Great to see this milestone captured on site. The Rix Group is proud to be supporting AHJV and TMR on the Mossman–Daintree Road recovery works following TC Jasper.

Our team delivered the piling works at Humbug Reach, along with ongoing slope stabilisation including soil nailing and shotcrete, with further stages to follow.

Despite challenging unforeseen ground conditions and working through two cyclones over the life of the project, the crew-maintained momentum to keep works progressing.

A strong team effort to help restore this critical link for the Far North Queensland community.

Recently The Rix Group completed the installation of permanent anchors at Hunter Street West, an important milestone in the ground retention works as part of the Sydney Metro West Eastern Tunnelling Package.

The scope involved installing 34 permanent anchors to strict B114 specification requirements. The anchors consisted of 19 strands of cable, drilled 36m deep at a very flat 5 degrees and to a strict 1:40 tolerance.

RIX values its close working relationship with the John Holland CPB Contractors Ghella Joint Venture team, and we have worked closely together on various parts of the project over the past 2 years.

The Rix Group recently delivered the soil nail, steel fixing and shotcreting scope for their client, Ward Civil, in Wilton NSW.

The slope stabilisation project consisted of the drilling, installation and grouting of:

451 Soil Nails ranging from 4.5m to 9.5m
120 Rock Nails at 3m in length
82 sub horizontal drains ranging from 5m to 15m

A total of 4,487 linear metres of drilling resulting in the use of 4,536 bags of cement, which is over 65,000 litres of cementitious grout.

Our multi-skilled team also installed over 2,000m2 of steel mesh and sprayed 430m3 of oxide coloured shotcrete and 500m2 of swale drains.

It was a pleasure to work alongside Ward Civil and their site team. The Rix Group are thankful for the opportunity, and look forward to collaborating again in the future.
