CHAMFER HOUSE – Under Construction

With structural steel, timber framing, and the installation of windows and doors complete, we're now moving on to internal sheeting. Behind the scenes, we're fine-tuning the joinery details and selecting the perfect textured render finish.

We are excited to showcase our latest project in Rose Bay to share our considered approach to the early design stages of our process at CMA.

We start all projects with our clients brief followed by a detailed analysis of the site, orientation, neighbours, privacy and council control. The inspiration for the concept often comes from our conversation and brief with the client. In this instance, the client noted their love for long eaves.

Carla was drawn to a project called Naoshima Hall by Hiroshi Sambuichi which was the conceptual inspiration for the form of the home. Carla felt this approach would suit the property which has views to Sydney Harbour and the Pacific Ocean visible from the northern aspect of the site.

The concept design process for this Rose Bay project started with multiple hand sketches from Carla, where design options were considered and optimum solutions explored within the constraints of the site, controls, brief and budget.

The client was excited by the concept presentation phase and used this forum to supply Carla with some slight modification ideas for Carla to test in the design.

We look forward to sharing the next stage – Design Development where we take onboard the comments from our clients and develop the design further.

We love sketches that allow us to reimagine a space.

For House Hurlstone the existing floor plan was restored and reconfigured to create four generously sized bedrooms, each thoughtfully placed to enhance the home’s functionality.

A subtle change in level was introduced through a rear extension, allowing for a cleverly pitched roof. This design choice added visual interest and made room for a large skylight that draws in abundant northern light while preserving privacy from nearby neighbours. The open-plan living area was strategically positioned to flow seamlessly into the backyard, fostering a strong indoor-outdoor connection and creating a spacious, airy atmosphere.

The result is a carefully crafted space that feels both expansive and intimate. As the client describes it, this is a place where the family can truly breathe easy, enjoying the comfort and tranquillity of their beautifully transformed home.

To us, designing homes is fundamentally about delivering value to our clients. Each client brings unique budgets, sites, and requirements, and no matter the brief, we strive to achieve economy, elegance, and efficiency throughout our designs.

The clients for Annandale House envisioned a home bathed in natural light, featuring beautiful yet functional living spaces, and serving as a practical family residence for four. The century-old house required extensive renovation and an extension to create an inviting space for both family life and entertaining.

While the process may have been lengthy and challenging, the end result was beautifully rewarding.

Eave House offers a breathtaking rear view, with sweeping panoramas of Sydney's C*D and harbour. This home is envisioned as a serene family retreat, nestled in the heart of Sydney’s Rose Bay.

It promises an idyllic lifestyle where parents and children can thrive together. The residence will feature a lush garden sanctuary, seamlessly connected to the indoors, allowing sunlight to flood every level and create a warm, inviting atmosphere year round.

As we move forward with the next stage of our design process for Eave House, we can't wait to share more of this journey with you.
