This was a really interesting one 👇
The house already had concrete steps and a pathway to the front door, all sitting flush with the driveway. The client didn’t want to pave the driveway, just wanted to lift the look of the front of the home — so we had to work within those existing heights.
Because we couldn’t build up too high, we actually cut the recycled bricks down into “biscuits” so we could keep everything nice and low while still getting the look.
At the top of the steps, we jackhammered out part of the existing concrete so we could bring everything down and flow it cleanly into the driveway — no step, no lip.
Around the front door was all detailed work:
• Cutting in tight around the entry
• Removing the threshold and grinding it down
• Setting pavers underneath for a proper finish
We also had to be careful not to cut the bricks too thin (they’ll crack and chip), so we set up a consistent cutting template to keep everything uniform.
The curved pathway was all hand laid, plus we extended the area out near the bay window to create a small seating area, which ties the whole front together.
We finished it off with a white cement grout joint, which really makes the recycled bricks pop.
To be honest, the cutting alone was multiple days, but it was worth it — turned out better than I expected.
Just need to come back for:
• Acid wash
• Expansion joints
• Final clean
And it’ll be 100%.
