No Coasting on Safety!

During September, our Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) Coordinators from across our Branches came together for the Stowe National HSEQ Safety Forum at the Twin Towns Clubs & Resorts Conference and Function Centre in Tweed Heads-Coolangatta on the NSW-Queensland coastal border.

It was a very productive and enriching Forum which highlighted Stowe’s unwavering commitment to and investment in our people and their safety as the number one priority in everything we do.

Coordinators were joined by our State and National Safety Managers Kane Hughes, Kaushik Mancell, Luke Davies, Kevin Nguyen, Gary King and Stowe’s Chief Operating Officer Mick Pawelko, among others.

For three intensive days with early starts, the team immersed themselves in a series of presentations, key learning and brainstorming workshops and safety updates.

The Forum covered everything from the latest in safety requirements, compliance, avoiding injury, return to work, psychosocial wellbeing and other essential safety topics, which the team were highly engaged in. Presentations included workshops on External Auditing preparation, Silica Control Plans and HSEQ documentation improvements plus key information from our Injury and Wellbeing specialist Emma Delaney.

Also joining us were industry guest speakers MATES in Construction, The Resilience Project and legal experts Sparke Helmore Lawyers who shared valuable insights with the group. Mates in Construction lead MATES Connector training for Mental Health for construction industry workers, along with the Queensland Electrical Safety Office presenting on industry standards and issues around the country.

Of course, this was also a great chance for all our Coordinators from around the country to workshop, network and catch up face to face.

Over recent weeks, we’ve been bringing together apprentices, tradespeople, supervisors, operational teams and leaders from across Stowe for Our Values, Our Behaviours workshops.

The focus is simple; ensuring our values aren’t just words on a wall, but are reflected in how we lead, how we behave and how we work together every day.

Rather than defining culture from the top down, we’ve asked our people to help shape what our values should look, feel and act like across our workplaces and project sites. The engagement across the workshops has been fantastic, with valuable contributions coming from every level of the business! It has also reinforced the strength of the next generation coming through Stowe, with our apprentices bringing great energy, perspective and ideas to the conversation.

For us, it reinforces an important message: leadership at Stowe isn’t defined by a title, it’s demonstrated through behaviour.

The work doesn’t stop when the workshops conclude; the next phase is about turning these conversations into action, embedding what our people have developed into our sites, projects, pre-starts, toolbox talks and everyday leadership conversations.

We don’t just want to talk about our values. We want our people to look, feel and act in a way that portrays these values every day. The team are looking forward to the remaining workshops taking place over October and November.

Fully Charged for Bridge to Brisbane

The iconic Bridge to Brisbane fun run was held on Sunday 13 September 2026 with the Queensland Stowe team participating. The results are in, and the team finished 41st overall in the corporate team rankings – a fantastic achievement in an event featuring more than 40,000 participants!

This year over 60 of our people took part – it was wonderful to see so many of our Stowe families joining in and enjoying the day. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the event such a success; we look forward to seeing you again next year!

Rising stars deliver a double NECA WIN!

At the recent NECA NSW Awards, two of our apprentices via NECA Training and Apprenticeships – Laryssa McPhee and Liam Mc Kenzie – picked up Fourth Year ELV / Communications Apprentice of the Year and Fourth Year Commercial / Domestic Apprentice of the Year.

Both apprentices were hosted with Stowe for four years via NECA until January 2026, and are both now proudly Stowe fulltime employees.

Laryssa

“It means a lot to be recognised among my peers for my contribution to the Stowe team, and I hope I can be a role model for other women in trade,” Laryssa said after the Awards.

“In 2027 I would like to join Stowe's apprentice mentor program as a mentor for a female apprentice who is just beginning her trade. In time, I would like to be a future leader in the company!” she said.

Laryssa’s roles so far include mostly Western Sydney hospitals, Optus and Data Centre work. She hopes to continue to specialise in the Data and Comms field.

Liam

“It was great to be recognised and appreciated for the hard work and effort I have put in throughout my apprenticeship,” Liam said, whose roles include Data Centre work and Fitouts.

“I am proud to now be a fulltime part of the Stowe team. My future plans are to gain as much experience as possible in my first year as a licensed electrician. Following this, I would like to become a Stowe apprentice mentor in 2027 – and in future, a leader in the company,” he said.

Cupcakes and conversations that matter on R U OK?

R U OK Day was recognised across Stowe on Thursday 10 September, with special R U OK cupcakes being enjoyed at our offices and some of our sites.

R U OK “contributes to su***de prevention efforts by encouraging people to invest more time in their personal relationships and building the capacity of informal support networks – friends, family and colleagues – to be alert to those around them, have a conversation if they identify signs of distress or difficulty and connect someone to appropriate support, long before they’re in crisis.”

Their research show that shows that a third of people don’t realise the difference they can make by checking in with someone they care about despite the fact that 9 in 10 of those who were asked, ‘are you OK?’, report feeling grateful, cared about, and supported. The R U OK website is an information-rich resource to help start some of those conversations.

Stowe nets NECA award for innovative Sydney Fish Market!

Stowe was awarded the 2026 NECA Training and Apprenticeships NSW Commercial X-Large Award for delivering the electrical and communications package for the new Sydney Fish Market, at the NECA NSW awards held last week at Accor Stadium.

Two of our apprentices via NECA – Laryssa McPhee and Liam McKenzie – also picked up 4th Year ELV / Communications Apprentice of the Year and 4th Year Commercial / Domestic Apprentice of the Year respectively!

The Award recognises the technical capability, project leadership and delivery excellence behind one of NSW’s most significant infrastructure developments.

Engaged by Multiplex on behalf of Infrastructure NSW (NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure), Stowe delivered the complete electrical and communications scope, demonstrating our capability to deliver at the highest end of the Australian electrical contracting industry while maintaining our uncompromising standards across safety, quality and technical performance.

Project Manager John Brumec reflected, “Projects of this scale and technical complexity demand strong engineering capability, disciplined delivery and genuine collaboration. Our team demonstrated that throughout the project – resolving complex challenges, maintaining focus on critical delivery outcomes and executing the works to an exceptionally high standard. This recognition belongs to every person who contributed to that outcome,” he said.

Mark Decker, Sydney Construction Branch Manager, commented, “This is exactly the type of technically sophisticated, large-scale project that demonstrates the strength of Stowe’s people, systems and delivery capability. Receiving the Award is significant recognition from our industry and reinforces the standard of major project delivery Stowe has established over generations,” he said.

Scott Gandy, a Director of Stowe Australia, said the recognition "means a lot because it reflects what our people are capable of. We embrace some of the largest, most complex and technically demanding projects in the country, and we consistently deliver."

“For me, this project demonstrates why Stowe is regarded as one of, if not the premier electrical contractor in the nation. We have the people, technical capability, resources, experience and depth to perform at the very highest level of our industry.

“We’re incredibly proud of what our team has delivered and equally proud to see their hard work recognised.”

From the core electrical and communications infrastructure to the specialist architectural and theatrical lighting that defines the roof and building after dark, Stowe’s scope is embedded throughout this landmark development. Congratulations to everyone involved!

Stowe Australia at the 2026 NECA Training and Apprenticeships (NECA) NSW Awards.

Today, members of the Stowe NSW team are attending the 2026 NECA NSW Awards at Accor Stadium in Sydney, celebrating excellence across the NSW electrical and communications industry.

We’re incredibly proud to be represented today, with Stowe nominated for the incredible work on the new Sydney Fish Market, which opened to the public earlier this year.

Being nominated for our work on such an iconic Sydney project is a fantastic acknowledgement of the commitment, expertise and teamwork of everyone involved in its delivery.

Today is also a great opportunity for our team to come together with our industry peers and celebrate the outstanding people, apprentices and projects shaping our industry.

Three projects, three NECA accolades: Stowe Victoria recognised across airports and hospitals!

Stowe Victoria has been recognised for excellence across some of the state’s most complex electrical projects, taking home multiple awards at the industry’s premier event – the Victorian NECA Awards (NECA Victoria) – for our work in the airport and health sectors.

Over 600 guests – the industry’s best of the best – gathered last Friday night at the Palladium at Crown Melbourne, Southbank for the awards night. Competition was strong across all categories, but Stowe ended up shining for delivering the following prestigious and highly visible projects the community will benefit from for years to come:

• Commercial (Large Category): Thomas Embling Hospital (Project Manager Nic McKenzie)

Celebrating Skills: Apprentice Development & Awards meets National Skills Week!

This week is the 16th year of ‘National Skills Week’, an initiative aimed at focusing on highlighting talents, skills, career pathways, vocational learning and “the value of apprentices and trainees across Australia to the wider public and employers.”

At Stowe, we invest heavily in our apprentices through skills training and employee benefits; our high volume of expressions of interest in starting an apprenticeship at Stowe each year is testament to the ongoing support we give our new recruits.

Our Apprentice Development Days for example – one held recently at West HQ NSW – supports them on their journey as lifelong learners, providing them with the opportunity to enhance their technical skills, learn teamwork and gain industry knowledge.

We also offer internal scholarships to support our employees’ learning, regularly attend career events for high school students deciding on their future career, are collaborating with NAWIC AUS and have just partnered with Aboriginal Employment Strategy (AES) to deliver a work-readiness program for Year 11 and 12 students interested in commencing an electrical apprenticeship in 2027.

As such, there is no better time to highlight the achievements of some of our Victorian apprentices, who recently attended our Victorian Apprentice Awards Night in the Danvers Room at Marvel Stadium on 14 August, as a precursor to our National ‘Pat Brown’ Stowe Apprentice Awards later in the year.

It was a fantastic night, with plenty of people catching up with apprentices they hadn’t seen in a while and enjoying the great food, drinks and atmosphere.

We’re pleased to announce our Victorian Apprentice Award winners on the night were:

Stowe Collaborates, Connects and Shares at Industry Conference

This month, Katie Boland – Stowe Training Officer NSW/ACT/WA and Ruby Turner, Stowe-hosted and NECA Training and Apprenticeships-employed apprentice, proudly represented Stowe Australia at the Apprentice Employment Network NSW & ACT Group Training Field Officers Conference, participating in two panel sessions.

The AEN Field Officers Conference provides Group Training Organisation (GTO) Field Officers with valuable professional development, helping strengthen apprentice support, build better host-employer relationships, enhance safety and industry knowledge, and share insights into how different GTOs operate.

Katie Boland joined Tiarnna McNamara from ITI Australia (Innovative Timber Ideas) to present ‘The Host Employer Perspective: Co-Designing a World-Class GTO Partnership.’ Their session explored the important role host employers and GTOs play in working together to create strong, supportive and successful apprenticeship experiences.

Ruby Turner, a first-year apprentice employed by NECA NSW and hosted by Stowe Australia, joined Marcus Hallam from ITI Australia to present ‘The Apprentice/Trainee Journey.’ Ruby shared her perspective as an apprentice, providing valuable insight into the apprentice experience and the support that helps young people develop and succeed in the industry.

Stowe Australia was proud to contribute to the conference and to have both Katie and Ruby representing our organisation, sharing their experiences and supporting stronger partnerships and outcomes across the industry.
