Every site has a bucket of shackles. Not all of them should still be in it.

If you can't read the markings, the pin won't sit right, or the body's bent or stretched, it's done. Same goes for anything that's been welded, heated or ground to make it fit.

And even a good shackle can lose half its capacity if it's side loaded.

We've covered the five things riggers get wrong with shackles. Worth a read and worth passing on to your team.

Saturday was World Mental Health Day, and last week our teams in NSW, QLD and VIC had a toolbox talk about Mental Health and Psychological Hazards in the workplace

We’re good at spotting a worn sling or a bad lift plan. The pressures that wear people down are harder to see, like long hours, working alone on site, or being part of a serious near miss.

A mental injury is still a workplace injury, so we treat it like any other hazard. If a workmate doesn’t seem themselves, ask how they’re going. Then listen, point them to support, and check in again a few days later.

If you’re doing it tough, call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636. Both are open 24 hours.

Look after each other out there πŸ’™ πŸ€—

The WLL on the tag isn't always the WLL on the job.

Sling angle is one of the most misunderstood factors in rigging. The wider the legs spread, the more tension each leg carries, and the less your sling can lift.

We've put together a full technical breakdown covering de-rating, loading factors and how to check your angle before the lift.

Last week the Toomelah Tigers made the long trip from just outside Goondiwindi to Newcastle for the Koori Knockout, and they brought three teams: Under 13s, Under 17s and Open Men's.

Getting three teams across the state costs a lot. There's travel, accommodation and entry fees for players, families and support crew, and it only happens when a whole community gets behind it.

The Tigers played two hard days of footy before being knocked out before the finals. It wasn't the result they wanted, but every player who pulled on the jersey should be proud of how they played.

The Knockout is about family, culture and community as much as the footy, and it was great to see Toomelah out in force.

We were glad to chip in and help get the Tigers there. Well played, and see you next year.

The Ranger self-locking hook keyring has been the most asked-about thing we've ever given away, and it's been out of stock for a while. A new batch just landed and the phones started ringing before we'd finished unpacking them. Plus the reps are getting cornered everywhere they go 🀣

John and David from our Newcastle team were up on the boom this week, installing a static line on a crane that works off a barge on a big infrastructure job.

Offshore plant is a different beast. Everything moves, the salt eats anything you don't spec properly, and the team needs to get from one end of that walkway to the other without ever unhooking.

It was a long day, but a decent view πŸ‘Œ

Proof loading a 5T beam is straightforward enough. Doing it in an engine room where every crane is 2T is another story.

Loadcell went on to confirm the load, then straight back off again because there was no headroom to traverse with it fitted. A bit of planning, some creativity with the test weights and a couple of hoists. Job done πŸ‘Œ

A great day out at the CPR Group Mark Hughes Foundation Charity Golf Day last Friday.

Our team of four β€” John, Matt, Liam, and guest player Paul β€” took on the course, while Jen held the fort at the Ranger gazebo on the 5th, which we were proud to sponsor again this year.

Big thanks to Alex Cooper and the team at CPR Group for putting on another fantastic day. A lot of work goes into events like this, and so great to be supporting brain cancer research, patients and their families.

Same time next year.⛳️

Periodic inspections don't stop at ground level.

Our team carried out a visual inspection of the main hoist rope on-site recently β€” up close, up high, and up to standard. In coastal and industrial environments, saltwater and sea air accelerate corrosion on wire rope far faster than most people expect, which is exactly why routine checks matter as much as scheduled ones.

Catching early signs of corrosion, wear, or damage before they become a problem is the difference between planned maintenance and unplanned downtime β€” or worse, an incident.

Contact our team to book in your next inspection.
