5 things stay exactly the same. 1 thing doesn’t, and that one thing is the whole point.

Same materials. Same Building Code compliance. Same approvals process. Same finishes. Same inspections at every stage. No shortcuts, no different rulebook.

The one difference is where it’s built. In our factory, not on your block, which means we’re on your site for weeks, not months, with a fraction of the mess and disruption a traditional build brings.

A friend asked if we could crane a modular studio into his backyard. That was something we’d never even heard of.

That one question kicked off 2 years that changed everything. A factory in Alexandria that turned out to be way too small, a hard lesson about moving too fast, and a bigger factory in Croydon that opened the door to something we didn’t expect.

By 2023, the demand wasn’t in small spaces anymore. It was in solving a housing shortage of 3,000 homes a year. That’s when Keep Mini Spaces became Keep Modular.

“We’re making massive dents in the housing supply shortage using modular solutions.”

Getting here wasn’t one straight line. It took a phone call during COVID about a backyard studio nobody had heard of, a factory that turned out to be too small within months, and a hard reset on what the business was actually for. Somewhere in all of that, the goal stopped being about small spaces and started being about the housing shortage itself, 3,000 homes short every year, and modular being the way to actually close that gap.

That shift, from building for individuals to building at the scale a shortage this size demands, is still what every decision at Keep Modular gets measured against today.

When COVID hit and the sites went quiet, a friend asked Jeremy if he knew anyone who could crane a modular studio into his backyard. He’d never even heard of the process. It got him thinking.

Then interest rates went through the roof, contracts were lost, and the decision was made, together with Clarissa and the team, to go all in on something completely different. First came tiny homes and granny flats. Then came the lesson that changed how they built the business. Then came the realisation that the real opportunity wasn’t in small spaces at all, it was in solving Australia’s housing shortage.

This is how Keep Constructions became KEEP Mini Spaces then Became Keep Modular.

A side hustle in 2007. A leap of faith in 2010. Licences earned through 2013-2017. And in 2023, a family home finished that felt like the milestone that made it all worth it.

Before Keep Modular existed, there was a cadetship in civils, a young family renovating homes on the side, and a decision, made together with his wife Clarissa, to sell everything and start over.

This is the story of how Jeremy Wikeepa went from a Downer job site to building his own company from scratch, the leap most people wouldn’t take, the years of learning a trade the hard way, and the milestone that made it all worth it.
