A failed joint can let water travel far beyond the point where it entered.
Sealant around glazing and façade interfaces is designed to accommodate movement while keeping moisture out. Once it cracks, hardens or separates, the opening may look small while the resulting damage remains hidden behind the façade or internal finishes.
Regular inspection allows deteriorated joints to be identified and renewed before water ingress becomes a larger remedial problem. It is a relatively small maintenance item with an important role in protecting the surrounding building fabric.
