🏗️ Engineered Access Solution | Orchard Hills Station 🚆

An-Co recently delivered a complex and highly engineered scaffold system at Orchard Hills Station on the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport line for Parklife Metro.

The preassembled Layher scaffold spans approximately 18.5m across the station above the platform and track, providing safe and efficient access for the lining of the structural steel canopy. Designed and supplied by Layher, the system showcases a high level of engineering and planning to achieve a solution that maintains access without disrupting critical works below.

A key feature of the scaffold is its rail-mounted design, allowing it to be progressively repositioned along the structure as works advance. This methodology delivered significant time and cost efficiencies, removing the need for substantially greater scaffold quantities while maintaining a high standard of safety and constructability.

This installation was completed via a major lift by Borger Cranes, with An-Co working closely to coordinate the lift and ensure safe and efficient placement of the system.

A strong collaborative outcome between Anco, Parklife Metro, Layher and Borger Cranes on a technically challenging piece of infrastructure.

Over the past several months, mast climber platforms have been supporting façade remediation works on An-CO's Chatswood project for RM Watson Pty Ltd.

For remediation works on tall buildings, mast climbers provide a highly effective access solution. The stable working platform allows trades to carry out detailed façade repairs with greater safety, efficiency and material handling capability than is typically achievable with alternative methods.

As the project progresses and the climbers approach the final stage of their use on site, it has been rewarding to see the system play an important role in enabling these works to be delivered safely and efficiently.

We are currently seeking an experienced and safety-focused Scaffold Supervisor to join our team on projects across Sydney.

What you’ll be doing:

-Supervise the safe er****on, modification, and dismantling of all scaffolding systems

-Conduct daily scaffold inspections and sign offs

-Measure up Builds and do gear lists

-Ensure full compliance with SafeWork NSW regulations, SWMS, and site-specific requirements

-Lead, train and mentor scaffolders and leading hands

-Coordinate with clients

-Carry out risk assessments and toolbox talks

What you need:

-Valid Advanced Scaffolding High Risk Work License (SA) – essential
-Minimum 3–5 years scaffolding experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
-White Card
-VOC for SA
- Working @ Heights
-Strong knowledge of tube & coupler, modular and system scaffolding Ring lock
-Current driver’s license and own reliable transport
-Excellent leadership, communication and problem-solving skills
-Ability to pass pre-employment medical & drug screen
-Consistent long-term work across Sydney metro & surrounding areas
-Ongoing training and career progression opportunities
-Supportive team and modern equipment

Great teamwork by An-CO at the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport project! Our engineers and site team designed and built a 12 m wide × 5 m high rolling scaffold using the Layher Allround FW System for the roof structure installation at the Airport Business Park station.

This innovative rolling scaffold eliminated the need to build a traditional birdcage scaffold, significantly saving time and cost. The system can be rolled into position with the help of a winch, enhancing site productivity and contributing to the on-time completion of future metro works.

An-CO have completed the scaffold design and planning for the works on the OCF Tanks at Sydney Water's Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre (AWRC), where access is required inside the hatch of the OCF tank.

The scaffold has been engineered to minimise physical ties to the tank structure, ensuring no fixed connections are made directly to the OCF tanks. Instead, the system incorporates:

-Wall tie brackets secured to the slab, providing stable external anchorage points
-Push ties used to safely support and restrain the scaffold where required
-A configuration that maintains structural integrity while protecting the tank surfaces
-Clear access routes for personnel entering the tank hatch

This design provides a safe, compliant, and non-intrusive access solution while maintaining full operational safety around the OCF tank environment.

An-CO is proud to showcase our mast climbers at Liberty Place supporting our client .

Our mast climbers are equipped with our new 1.6m slide-out decks, designed to address the tight access constraints of this site. These innovative decks provide greater flexibility and improved reach, ensuring safer and more efficient façade access.

Additionally, we’ve implemented our OEM cable guide system, delivering streamlined cable management and reducing the risk of damage or disruption during operation.

To further enhance site safety and monitoring, we’ve also integrated our real-time Anti-Tamper Tie Monitor System, developed in collaboration with IQM. This system provides live feedback on tie integrity, giving our clients added peace of mind and ensuring compliance with the highest safety standards.
