Tony Bleasdale wasn’t just the Mayor of our city - he was a fundamentally decent, loving person.

He was giving and generous and always there for our people. Never afraid to speak up, a believer that he had a role to play advancing social justice, delivering better for our community because they deserved better.

I always thought the world of him, I was lucky to know him.

We have no control over when our departure will be but there was something just not right about him leaving us the way he did.

I really feel for his family and know many in our community will feel a deep soulful ache learning of his passing.

I don’t just thank Tony for his public service - I thank him because he profoundly loved serving the public. Vale. You have no idea how much I’ll miss you mate.

Today Anthony Albanese announced in Washington that Microsoft will be making a $5bn+ investment n digital infrastructure, cybersecurity and tech skills in Australia.

Our government has already committed to the goal of having 1.2m Australians in tech related jobs by 2030- the commitment by Microsoft will get us so much closer to reaching that.

I visited TAFE NSW Meadowbank Applied Technology Institute with Jerome Laxale MP to outline how Microsoft will be opening a Data Centre Training Academy with TAFE and training up to 300,000 Aussies, helping create the digital tradies we need now and into the future - targeting Western Sydney
first.

Countries that invest in technology get that it is important for jobs and long-term growth.

Microsoft's announcement pairs with the Albanese
government's determination to ensure the rest of the world knows we want our country to be a centre of global tech talent and investment - strong firms and strong jobs!

On this day in 1978, Denis Law presents Archie Gemmill with an award from the BBC for his sensational goal at that year's World Cup.

The presentation took place before Scotland's 3-2 victory against Norway at Hampden, in which Gemmill scored a late winner.
