FAQ FRIDAY’S!

One of the most common questions we get asked is about the rules regarding engineering for retaining walls.

Any retaining wall exceeding 1m in height requires Engineering and Building Approval before you start. The work must also be completed by a licensed contractor with a valid QBCC Licence.

The heart behind Ryano’s Civil & Earthworks: Meet Ryan.

If you’ve worked with us before, you know Ryan lives and breathes earthworks, but there’s a bit more to the man in the yellow shirt than just digging dirt.

Ryan has been around machinery his whole working life (save for a stint at Woolies as a young man). Whether he is racing drift cars or operating an excavator, he has always been at his best in the driver’s seat. He takes precision and pride from start to finish in every job.

When he isn’t on-site or surprising his wife with a brand-new excavator (it happens more often than you’d think!), he’s at home mastering the art of the perfect pancake for his kids.

WONKY WALL WEDNESDAY 😵‍💫

A Buderim "New Build" Fail. This timber sleeper wall is only 4 years old, but it’s already giving way. Failure started the day it was built.

The Ryano’s Verdict: This is a classic case of uncompacted fill and insufficient drainage. The footing depth wasn't deep enough for the type of soil used, causing the entire structure to move as the ground shifted.

Spotto Score: 8/10 for that 45-degree lean!
