Digging in the garden? Here's why it pays to know where your water line runs. 💧
Got a call today in Moffat Beach. The owner was digging along the side of the house and caught the 25mm poly water main with the shovel. Easy mistake to make, and it happens more often than you'd think.
Water was shut off at the meter, damaged section cut out, and a new length of 25mm poly joined in with compression fittings. Water back on and good to go.
A few tips before you start digging:
🔹 Know where your water meter and shut-off valve are, so you can stop the flow fast if something goes wrong
🔹 Service lines from the meter to the house are usually shallow and often run along the side of the house, exactly where people put garden beds
🔹 Dial Before You Dig (BYDA) is free and covers council and utility services, but it won't show the private pipes on your side of the meter
🔹 If you're not sure where your lines run, dig carefully by hand near the house
And if you do hit one, don't stress. Turn the water off at the meter and give me a call.
