This is Australia!

Blue skies one minute… then suddenly the sky opens up and your backyard looks like a swimming pool 🌧️

When a big storm rolls through, your stormwater system can go from barely doing anything to handling a huge amount of water in a very short time.

Blocked pits, leaves, dirt, roots or damaged stormwater pipes can quickly become a problem when all that water needs somewhere to go. 💦

So if your stormwater is overflowing, backing up or just not keeping up when the rain hits, it might be time to get it checked.

Because in QLD, you never know when the next 'this is Australia' moment is coming. 😂🌧️

THAT SEWER SMELL ISN’T NORMAL 🚽

You know the smell… 🤢

If your bathroom, laundry or outside drains keep giving off that unmistakable sewer smell, don’t just cover it up and hope it goes away.

It could be something simple, or it could be a sign of a blocked drain, damaged pipework, faulty venting or another drainage issue.

The tricky part?
You can often smell the problem before you can see it.

If that smell keeps coming back, let our team investigate it properly. We have the equipment and experience to find out what’s actually going on. 🔧

Smells like sewer? Let’s get to the bottom of it. 👃💩

WHY DO WE LOVE COPPER? 🟠

There’s a reason we still use plenty of copper on our jobs.
It’s strong, reliable, handles hot and cold water, and it’s been used in plumbing for a very long time. 🔧

Something a lot of people don’t realise is that copper also has natural antimicrobial properties, which can help reduce the survival of certain bacteria on the surface of the pipe. 🦠

So when we’re running copper for your drinking water, you’re getting some delicious plumbing material installed. 💧

And let’s be honest… there’s nothing better than a nice clean copper install when the job’s finished. 🔥

That’s why we’re still big fans of copper here at Refined Plumbing, if you are too.. you know what to do!

Is your toilet trying to tell you something?

Your toilet might not be able to talk, but it has plenty of ways to let you know something isn’t right. 😂

If it’s constantly running, making strange noises, wobbling, leaking around the base or regularly blocking, it’s probably worth paying attention.

One quick test you can do at home is to add a few drops of food colouring to the cistern and wait 10–15 minutes without flushing. If the colour appears in the bowl, you may have a slow leak. 💧

And remember, your toilet isn’t a rubbish bin — wipes, paper towel, cotton buds and other products can cause some serious blockages. 🪠

If your toilet is making noises that sound like it’s trying to have a conversation with itself… it might be time to call a plumber. 😂🚽

What 7 News reported about Australia's Tap Water...

You may have seen the recent conversation around PFAS (“forever chemicals”) and what’s in our drinking water. 💧

While Australian tap water is treated and regularly tested to meet strict standards, many homeowners are choosing filtration as an extra step to improve the water they use every day. 🚰

A whole-house filtration system filters water before it enters your home, giving you filtered water from your kitchen taps, showers and appliances throughout the house. 🏠

Depending on the system, filtration can help reduce chlorine, sediment, rust, unwanted odours and certain contaminants — including PFAS where the system is certified to do so. ✔️

We recently installed a dual-stage whole-house filtration system, giving this home cleaner, better-quality water throughout the property. 💦

Thinking about filtering your water? We can help you find the right option for your home with honest advice and no pressure.

Eye spy a leak...👀
The trickiest leaks are usually the ones you can't see. This one was hiding beneath a paved area, so we used acoustic leak detection to pinpoint the exact location before we were deep in the dirt.

We replaced the damaged water and stormwater mains, tested everything to make sure it was working perfectly, and left the site clean, tidy, and safe...like we were never there (some call us the plumbing fairies).🧚‍♂️

Most people don't think about their plumbing... until something goes wrong.

You probably know where your power box is—but if a pipe burst today, would you know where to shut your water off? 🤔

A few quick reminders every homeowner should know:

- Knowing where your main water shut-off valve is could save you thousands in water damage.
- "Flushable" wipes are one of the most common causes of blocked drains (despite what the packet says!).
- That little dripping tap you've been meaning to fix? It can waste thousands of litres of water over time.
- Most major plumbing issues start as small, easy-to-fix problems.

Pop quiz...

What's the only thing harder to find than the TV remote?

Your home's main water shut-off valve! 😂

It's the little things that make a bathroom feel brand new ✨

This customer's basin had a small leak coming from the old plug and waste. Nothing major, but the kind of thing that's best fixed before it turns into a bigger problem.

We swapped it out for a new chrome pop-up waste, made sure everything was sealed properly, tested it for leaks, and left it looking fresh and working exactly as it should.

It's a simple repair, but one that saves water, protects your vanity, and makes using your bathroom that little bit nicer.

Sometimes the smallest plumbing jobs have the biggest impact.
