If the grid went down right now, your solar probably wouldn't help you. 🔋

Even at midday. Even with the sun blazing.

It's the most common misunderstanding we come across. Standard grid-connected solar is legally required to shut off completely during a blackout, so it can't push power into lines a repair crew might be touching. Safe, but no use to you in an outage.

No battery means no backup. Full stop.

With a battery set up properly, the system detects the outage, disconnects from the grid and starts running your home off stored power, usually in under a second. Most people only notice the flicker.

Worth knowing: "backup" doesn't always mean everything. Essential circuits (fridge, lights, a few power points) is the common setup and hits the sweet spot for most homes. Whole-home backup works, but needs a bigger battery and proper switchboard capacity.

Three questions worth asking about your own system: ⚡ Which circuits are wired into the backup board? ⚡ How long does the battery realistically run them? ⚡ Is the switchover automatic, or do you have to do something?

Can't answer all three? You don't actually know what happens when the power goes out.

⚡ Your room size, roughly. "About 4 metres by 5" beats "medium-ish, I guess" every time ⚡ Which way the room faces. North or west with lots of glass changes what size system actually works ⚡ A rough budget. Not so we can push you to it, but because "what have you got" is a much faster conversation than guessing three times

It's started talking to you; a click here, a buzz there, a hum that definitely wasn't part of the original soundtrack. Aircons don't get chattier with age for no reason.

Ever notice how one room in the house just refuses to cool down, no matter how hard the aircon's working? 🥵 Meanwhile the hallway's basically Antarctica.

That room's not broken. It's just far from the return air, gets more sun than the rest of the house, or is fighting a losing battle through a door that's always shut. Ducted systems push air where the ductwork tells them to, not where you actually need it most.

The fix isn't "turn it down further and hope." It's zoning, being able to tell the system "give this room more, that room less" instead of blasting the whole house evenly and wondering why the sunroom still feels like a greenhouse.

Seeing "No Communication" on your solar app? Don't panic; your panels are probably still working.

That alert usually means your inverter has lost its internet connection, not that your system has stopped producing power. In most cases, your panels keep generating solar the whole time; it's just the monitoring app that's gone quiet.

Common culprits:
🔌 A new modem or internet provider change
📶 Weak Wi-Fi signal (garages, sheds and meter boxes are notorious for this)
🌐 A temporary network dropout that often fixes itself

Quick things to try:
✅ Check your internet is working on other devices
✅ Restart your modem/router
✅ Look for any warning lights or error codes on the inverter
✅ Check when the app last updated
