This chimney crown had crumbled away and was sitting wide open, moss taking over and weather getting straight in.

Rebuilt and re-rendered the crown, sloped to shed the rain.
Then fitted a windless cowl on top, so no more downdraft, rain or birds getting into the flue.

Solid and weathertight again.

Out with the old terracotta pots, in with a pair of windless cowls.
Built to stop wind pushing smoke back down the flue, so no more downdraft on a gusty day.
They keep birds and nests out, and stop rain getting into the chimney too.

This chimney hadn’t been used in years, and the top had crumbled wide open.

That lets rain, leaves and birds straight into the flue, which is exactly how damp problems start.

Re-rendered the crown and fitted a capped mesh vent. It keeps the weather and the wildlife out, but still lets the flue breathe so moisture can’t get trapped.

Sealed where it matters, open where it counts.

This chimney was leaking water down inside the house.

The crown up top had cracked and gone mossy, with a corner broken away, so rain was tracking straight into the brickwork.

Cut the old crown back, re-rendered it with a slope to shed the rain, and sealed around the flue.

Weathertight again, and the leak’s stopped.

Wood heater was puffing smoke back into the room.

Turned out the base of the flue cowl had rusted right through, so it couldn’t draw properly and was washing smoke back down.

Cut the corroded base out and fitted a new galvanised one, sealed up and weatherproof.

Drawing properly again now🔥

All of this came out of one Jetmaster flue. That black pile is soot and creosote. The stuff that builds up over seasons of burning and turns into a genuine fire risk if it’s left.

Swept it right out, firebox cleared, drop sheets down the whole time so not a speck on the carpet. Burns safer and draws better now. 🔥

Pulled this lot out of a flue! A bird’s nest packed in tight enough to block it completely.

A blocked flue means no draw, smoke pushed back into the room, and a real fire risk if someone lights up without knowing.

Cleared it out, swept the flue, and it’s drawing safely again. A cowl on top stops birds getting in to begin with🔥

Undersized cowl = smoke blowing back into the room. Swapped it for a properly sized stainless cap and re-rendered the crown while we were up there. Draws clean now, and it’ll never rust. 👌
