John Thong is a Director of the practice. Wilson Architects are nationally recognised for our expertise in the innovative design of contemporary teaching and learning environments, education planning and leading scientific and medical research laboratory design. Wilson Architects is strengthened by our associates who are focused on creating a difference within the practice, both on projects and through their actions. With disciplines across architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture, their commitment to the practice and wide-ranging experience is a valuable addition to the team.

Tomo’s Japanese heritage brings a unique perspective and sensibility to his work. He is incredibly experienced in large and complex projects, and he balances a precision for detail and resolution with an appreciation of nature, which creates an enviable balance to both his work and life.

Tanya is unrivalled in her ability to calmly work through project chaos, to bring out the best in her colleagues, her clients, and her projects, to create memorable and intuitive designs.

John, with over 30 years of experience as a landscape architect at Wilson Architects, is a long-standing foundation within the practice. With unrivalled horticultural knowledge, John is passionate about what makes good landscape. His personable character and ever present knowledge is a constant source of reference and highly valued.

Ilka’s ability to creating beautiful landscapes is founded in her sensibility in curation and thought about how a landscape composition is both viewed and occupied. She is client focused and collaborative in her approach to design, organised, and has a loveable personality which makes her a joy to have in the office.

Homelessness is not simply "roof"lessness.

Homelessness is a complex societal issue that takes a huge toll on people's physical and mental wellbeing.

We believe that everyone deserves the security, stability, privacy, and safety of a home and are proud to support the Second Chance Programme for 2022's Sleepout for Homelessness fundraising campaign which supports women and children who are suffering housing stress and who are at risk of homelessness.

Each NAIDOC Week we celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Wilson Architects would like to use our platform to showcase the artistry of a past collaborator who enriched QIMR Berghofer with her striking piece titled "water memory" —renowned Meanjin (Brisbane) artist, Judy Watson.

Descended from the Waayi people of northwest Queensland, Judy Watson is an artist who works across all media and uses her art to emphasise the presence and history of Aboriginal Australia.

From brass angle measures to creating designs on a computer. For a practice founded in the late 19th century, Wilson Architect’s team has seen an incredible change in the tools used to create our work over the decades.

Despite the change in architectural tools, one thing has stayed the same— our commitment to co-creation and collaboration on designs with our clients.

We design for longevity and we design with you.

(But, these days, we design without chronometers!)

Wilson Architects welcomed a local high school student into our office last week to gain first hand experience in the architecture and design industry. She engaged with interior designers, architects and landscape architects to produce a return brief and concept design for an office collaboration space, participated in design charrettes and undertook site visits to new and completed projects.

Mentored by our year out student Emily, we were able to facilitate valuable learning opportunities for both.

We’re excited to continue mentoring the diverse next generation of Australian architects by welcoming future students into the studio.

Originally designed by Beth and Hamilton Wilson, the formal garden that lies at the heart of the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens has been enjoyed by the public for over three decades.
