This is what following the engineering details actually looks like on site.

Here, multiple concrete tie-downs with large washers, strap bracing and diagonal bracing are working together to secure this section of timber framing exactly as specified by the engineer.
Once the walls, cladding and finishes are complete, none of this will be visible.
But that’s the point.
Quality construction isn’t just about what you can see it’s about getting the structural details right before they disappear behind the finished product.

THIS IS WHY OLD HOUSES TAKE SKILL TO RENOVATE.

Early 1900s timber weatherboards rarely give you a perfectly straight line to work with.
Every board here was originally cut to a different length, with variations in plumb cuts. To connect the existing house to the new extension, we had to carefully establish a new perfectly straight vertical junction so the new cladding could start cleanly and continue seamlessly.

It’s the work behind the finished product that often takes the most skill.

THE LANDSCAPING IS PART OF THE BUILD.

Early stages of the brickwork on this project but you can already see the shape taking form.
These deep red face-brick walls are doing more than creating garden beds. Multiple levels are being built to provide retaining, structure and definition to the finished landscape, working around the new steelwork and existing boundary.
It’s another part of the project where planning, levels and good workmanship matter.

THIS IS WHAT “THINKING AHEAD” LOOKS LIKE.

Good carpentry isn’t just about building what’s on the plans.

We needed a solid wall with multiple studs, but also needed to get power to a switch with nowhere else for the cable to run. So we created a dedicated 35 × 35 recessed cable channel within the framing, including the access hole through the top plate.
No last-minute hacking. No compromised framing. Just planning ahead and solving the problem properly.

The details you don’t see are often what make the finished job better.

And rather than create a pile of brick dust/ wet red slurry at the client’s home, we did the cutting back in our yard.
