Sometimes the biggest problems are the ones you can’t see.

Alex jumped into a roof space today and found a water leak hidden beneath the insulation. The cause? An antenna cable that had been installed incorrectly. Water was running down the cable, acting like a wick, and dripping into the exact same spot every time it rained.

Over time, the insulation became saturated, water pooled on top of the plasterboard, and black mould had started to form. All from a small installation detail that was overlooked years earlier.

It’s a reminder that quality workmanship matters. A job might look fine from the outside, but it’s the details you don’t see that often make the difference.

Whether it’s electrical work, antennas, plumbing, or roofing, make sure it’s done properly the first time. Small shortcuts today can become expensive repairs tomorrow.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learnt in business over the last few years is that you don’t have to figure everything out on your own.

Surround yourself with good people. Find business owners who are a few steps ahead of you, ask questions, and be willing to learn from their experiences. Join networking groups, connect with mentors, and build relationships with people who genuinely want to see you succeed.

Some of the best advice I’ve received has come from a simple phone call with another business owner who’s already been through the same challenge.

What started as networking has turned into friendships, support, and a group of people I know I can call when I need guidance.

How cool are these LED lights built into the cabinetry?

The cabinet makers deserve all the credit for this one. I just wired up a couple of power points and plugged everything in.

If you watch the video closely, you’ll notice I never actually touch a switch. The lights are controlled by a sensor, so all you need to do is wave your hand nearby and they turn on or off automatically.

It’s a simple feature, but it gives the cabinetry a really clean, modern look without visible switches cluttering things up.

⚡ Behind the scenes of being a tradie.

Most people only see the finished result, but one of the best parts of the job is the people you meet along the way.

Every day is different. Different homes, different jobs, different challenges, and plenty of great customers who go out of their way to make you feel welcome.

Sure, there’s roof work, crawling through tight spaces, and the occasional job nobody wants to do. But helping people solve problems and improve their homes makes it all worthwhile.

It’s not always glamorous, but it’s a pretty good way to make a living. 👌

Alex and I recently completed this shed fit-out over multiple stages, working to a tight deadline to make sure everything was finished before the customer’s shed party.

✅ High bay LED lighting
✅ Multiple power points throughout
✅ New switchboard installation
✅ External lighting
✅ Neat cable tray system for future access and expansion

The customer needed it done, so we pushed hard to get it over the line in time. Really happy with how this one turned out.

Intermittent power trips can be some of the hardest faults to find.

This shop was experiencing random outages that left part of the store in darkness, frustrating both staff and customers. After fault-finding and isolating the affected circuit, we traced the issue to water ingress in several light fittings hidden above the ceiling.

The affected lights were disconnected, power was safely restored, and recommendations were provided to repair the roof leak and replace the damaged fittings.

Sometimes the problem isn’t electrical at all - it’s water. 💡💧

Just a quick reminder to test your RCDs if you haven’t done it in a while.

Today I attended a customer’s home for a couple of small electrical jobs. While I was there, I performed a routine test on their safety switch (RCD). It failed to operate correctly, so I took the customer outside to show them the issue.

While we were standing at the switchboard, the faulty RCD started smoking right in front of us.

It was a pretty good reminder of why these devices should be tested regularly. Safety switches are designed to protect you and your family from electric shock, but like any electrical component, they can fail over time.

If you haven’t tested yours recently, head out to your switchboard and press the “Test” button on each RCD. It should trip immediately. Simply reset it afterwards and you’re good to go.

If it doesn’t trip, won’t reset, or you’re unsure what you’re looking at, give us a call and we’ll be happy to help.

A 10-second check could make all the difference.
