Once again, we welcomed Dr. Maria Ignatieva from the UWA School of Design and her Landscape Architecture students to our Serpentine Farm. 🌱💚

The students were guided around the farm by Production Manager Craig Greenhalgh, Grace Pitsikas and Indiana Duff, who shared insights into various turf production processes and answered questions throughout the visit.

🌱The visit covered the different turf varieties grown on-site, focusing on performance, suitability and growing processes for various environments. Students also explored the practical uses of turf beyond aesthetics, including noise abatement, erosion control and glare reduction.

♻️ Sustainability is a big part of how we operate. The tour highlighted microenvironments created for animals, tree rehabilitation efforts, a Zero Waste composting process, and the use of water catchments and man-made wetland capture systems.

🏟️ The group also explored our sports turf, including turf grown for use at Optus Stadium, learning about the specific requirements of turf used in high-performance sporting environments.

🚜 A highlight of the visit was getting up close to the harvesting process, watching the turf being harvested and wrapped and seeing how it is prepared for delivery.

💚 This is our 5th time hosting the students, and we hope they left with a greater understanding of turf production, sustainable farming practices and the many ways turf can be used across landscape and sporting projects. 🌱

🌱☀️ SPRING IS ALMOST HERE! ☀️🌱
It's time to prepare your lawn for Spring!
💧 Be ready to turn your sprinklers back on on the 1st of September.
🥵As the weather warms up, your lawn can quickly become stressed without water. Don’t let it dry out completely. Start thinking ahead now.

3 STEPS
1️⃣ CUPS
Measure how long it takes for your retic system to put out 10mm of water.
Catch Cups are ideal and available complimentary here at Greenacres Turf Group; however, any straight-sided container is suitable (Ice cream containers, coffee cups), marking 10mm up the sides. Assess that all the sprinklers are working and there are no obstructions eg. the grass has not grown higher than the sprinklers.
2️⃣ CALIBRATION
Still using the catch cups, turn your sprinklers on for 10 minutes & then measure the contents to confirm they are spraying evenly. Check sprinkler nozzles & filter and flush to remove any debris.
3️⃣ FERTILISE
Our WA soils are often high in silica and low in water retention. To help lock in moisture, apply a Soil Wetter and Moisture Retainer:
💧Start with Aqua Force (follow label directions)
💧Then apply Bi-Agra 5 days later
Repeat every 4–6 weeks through the warmer months
🌱As the soil warms up, your lawn is waking up from winter dormancy and will benefit from a good feed. Use a balanced, slow-release NPK fertiliser to kick-start strong, healthy growth

Spring is Here! This means it is time to turn our sprinklers back on. WA has had plenty of rain over winter and the ground is currently nice and moist - but it won't take long for turf to become stressed if left too long without water! Do not let it completely dry out before

Greenacres Turf Group (WA’s largest turf farm) has expanded its operations, and we are seeking a vibrant, physically fit and energetic individual to come join our local team at our Gingin location.

If you enjoy working outdoors, have a positive attitude and willingness to learn, and feel that you may be up for a new challenge, then we would love to hear from you! 💚🌱

The role is to assist with the day-to-day operations of the farm, and would involve:
✅ Working as part of a team to ensure production areas are maintained to a high standard
✅ Assist with harvesting of turf orders, including stacking of turf rolls
✅ Operate equipment and machinery as required eg. Mowers, tractors
✅ Provide assistance maintaining all turf areas
✅ General Farm Maintenance

At Greenacres, we have been working hard to achieve zero waste and move towards sustainability. 🌱💚

♻️ For the last 7 years we have been using leftover turf from commercial jobs and turning it into compost to achieve zero waste.
♻️ This can be used to top-dress our pivots and be used in soil amendments - how cool is that!

What is the difference between Sir Walter and Palmetto Soft Leaf Buffalo?
This is one of the most common questions we get! Sold for the same price, the main differences are based on:
1️⃣ Sunlight ☀️ (Palmetto is more shade tolerant),
2️⃣ Wear Tolerance👣 (Sir Walter is hardier),
3️⃣ Maintenance ✂ (Palmetto is the lowest maintenance variety), and
4️⃣ Appearance 🔍 (Palmetto leaf grows vertically and is regarded as softer, and Sir Walter grows horizontally).
