After working through a few challenges to get this one out of the ground, Bareki Road is officially moving forward.

The first concrete pour marks a solid milestone and the start of some serious progress on site.

Big design. Tough Rock. Serious loads.

At Gan Gan, this architecturally ambitious home meets exceptionally hard rhyodacite ignimbrite and excavation is a major challenge.

We considered moving the house to avoid excavating around 400 m³ of rock, saving time and money. But we believe that would compromise the architectural outcome, so we’re taking on the rock and staying true to the design.

With a second-storey pool adding significant loads, the foundations are critical. Those loads need to transfer through the structure to the slab into the concrete piers bearing on the ignimbrite.

Careful planning, the right machinery, and plenty of persistence... the work below the surface supports everything above it.

FIGTREE UPDATE

A serious machine for some serious rock. 💪

The arrival of the 40 tonnes HIDROMEK at Figtree has made an immediate difference onsite.

The smaller machines have done the hard yards getting us to this point, but when you’re dealing with rock on this scale, you need the right equipment for the job.

With significantly more size, power and breakout force behind it, the 370 can get into the rock in a completely different way - breaking through material that takes considerably more time with the smaller machines and allowing us to keep the excavation moving.

There’s still plenty of rock ahead of us, but Figtree is well and truly taking shape.

UPDATE ON OUR FIGTREE PROJECT

Major rock hammering underway at Figtree Manor today.

Greg is onsite overseeing the action while we wait for the 40 tonne excavator to arrive with a specialist rock hammer all the way from Sydney set to be on site in the morning. This beast is built for the job and will make light work of the rock standing between us and the next stage of the build.
