Commercial heat pump repair at one of Brisbane's State Schools

The unit wasn’t reaching temperature, so we carried out fault finding on the refrigeration system to determine what was going on.

We found one of the pipework clips had come loose, allowing the copper pipe to rub against the unit. Over time, it had worn through the copper and caused the system to lose its refrigerant charge.

The leak was located and repaired, additional oil was added as required, and the system was recharged and returned to operation.

Really enjoyed this repair. While air conditioning is a big part of what we do at Abreeze, we also specialise in the refrigeration side of commercial HVAC equipment, including fault finding, leak detection and repairs.

And for once, everything was actually easy to get to! Wish every unit was this accessible...

Always good to find the actual cause of the problem, repair it properly and keep the equipment running.

On Friday, the team knocked off early for a half day.
Pizza for lunch at the workshop, followed by a few games of pool at Rack City.

With everyone usually spread out across different jobs and sites, it’s not often we’re all in the same place at once.

Always good to get everyone together, catch up and have a bit of fun outside of work.

Back into it today 👌

"Over the school holidays, the Abreeze team replaced 6 x 8kW Mitsubishi Electric split systems at one of our schools. ✅

After completing a unit condition report last year, all 6 were flagged for replacement due to their condition, requiring additional works, cleans, and parts just to keep them limping along.

Brand new Mitsubishi Electrics are now in, and the classrooms are cool and ready to go! ❄️❄️

First quarterly maintenance completed on a commercial site in South Brisbane.
Two large air-cooled chillers on the roof, with the team familiarising themselves with the plant, reviewing documentation, and setting a solid baseline for ongoing maintenance.
Plenty more to come on this site, this is just the start.

Heat Pump Diagnosis

We had a customer who's heat pump wasn't heating. We were requested to test the Low Pressure switch and check the refrigerant levels.

At first glance, if you look at the bottom left side of the coil you can see what appears to be salt/chlorine build up. This usually indicates the pool water has entered the refrigeration system likely through the heat exchanger.

✅ LP switch tested fine
✅ Checked refrigant levels - 0 kpa = nothing left in the system
✅ Pressure tested with nitrogen
✅ Confirmed the leak on the coil as expected...

😫 Unfortunately the customer is up for a new heat pump due to water entering the Refrigeration system.

This split system didn’t look too bad from the outside, but once we opened it up… yeah, not great. And this one is not actually that bad compared to some! 😷

Left side = what was hiding inside.
Right side = halfway through a proper clean.
Big difference.
